DIY Fall Decor Tutorial: Bushel Basket Tier

2 Mins read

Do you hang on to things because you know there is something fabulous you can do with them……… someday? We have a neighborhood yard sale twice a year and I love getting rid of all the excess, but I always have those things that pull at my “repurposed-crazed” heart that I just can’t part with. I had two bushel baskets that were among the “have to keep pile”. I never got rid of them because I really wanted to come up with a project to use them on. Finally, last fall, a light bulb went off and they were put together to make a DIY Fall Decor Tutorial of a bushel basket tier!

I had been storing the bushel baskets for years in my garage. They fit so well together. 🙂

Last fall, I was trying to incorporate them into my fall decorating when my light bulb went off. Wouldn’t they be cute stacked on top of one another to make a tiered basket? Not knowing if it was possible, I talked it over with Matt and he said it should be simple to do. (I love those words.)

The first thing we did was cut the dowel down to the size I thought the entire piece should stand. Then, we secured the top of the rod to the base of the smaller basket.

We did this with a piece of wood inside the basket, a lag bolt and a washer.

Next, we secured the bottom of the dowel to the base of the bigger basket. Again, we used wood, cut to fit inside the basket, lag bolts and washers.

Since we had the washer and lag bolt on the bottom of the bigger basket, Matt told me that I would need “feet” under the bigger basket to make it sit up straight and stable. I immediately thought of the stash of wood knobs we had in the garage. They were the same color of the baskets so they wouldn’t stand out and they were the perfect size to make “feet” for this piece. They worked great!

I added tons of raffia inside each basket and filled them with different pumpkins I had.

A few pumpkins here, a few leaves there. This bushel basket tier is spilling over with fall happiness.

I am so glad I held on to these bushel baskets. These baskets were destined for greatness.

Now, if only the light bulb could go off with the rest of that “gotta-keep” pile. 😉
