10 Places To Get High End Decor For Less.

Decorating is fun, but can be expensive. Get the look you want for little money by shopping these 10 Places To Get High End Decor For Less.

Now, I can get behind High End Decor For Less. This is something that I could write a book about. This is something I know all too well. I am the expert. Okay, I might be taking it a little too far, but I do know a little something about finding high-end decor for less. It is the only way I shop for anything we need or want.

Matt and I moved into our first house the day after we got married. Our wedding party, family and friends moved all of our stuff into our new house while we were having breakfast at the hotel. It was amazing to have all the moving done for us and just have to worry about decorating and putting things away.

After all of the boxes were away and we were ready to start buying some furniture and decor for the house, I quickly found out that our budget was not going to allow me to decorate our first home exactly how I wanted to.

My decor binders that were filled with torn out magazine pages and inspiration photos (hello, pre-Pinterest days) were no help at all because I was finding out that the things in those photos were expensive. I was frustrated but determined. I still wanted those things and I still wanted our house to look a certain way. It was time to get creative and figure it out.

And that, my friends, is how all of this started. I figured out ways to decorate our home exactly how I wanted without breaking the bank. The house was decorated and we were still putting money into our savings. It was possible and I had figured out how.

Learning how to shop and where to find the best deals was the solution.

There were inexpensive ways to get the things in those decor binders. I just had to learn some things about different stores and ways to find those things. It might take a little bit longer to decorate, but I find that the extra time ensures that I am getting exactly what I want.

10 Places To Get High End Decor For Less

Thrift Stores/Yard Sales/Estate Sales

These are my FAVORITE places to get high-end decor for less. This entire blog is based around this concept. Buying thrifted items that may not be exactly what I want, but transforming them into exactly what I want is the secret sauce. It is the way to get great pieces too. Furniture is just not made the way it used to be made, so when I can find a solid wood piece that just needs a little TLC, I grab it.

I would much rather invest little money in pieces like that then spend a lot of money on pieces that aren’t going to last years and years. Shopping thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales is the best way to save a ton of money on amazing pieces and still get the look you want. Shopping this way is possible for any style too. It is not only for one style.

Not only do I have a lot of blog posts dedicated to different projects you can do with thrifted finds, but I also created a guide to show you How To Decorate On A Yard Sale Budget. I also shared the 10 Things You Should Buy At Yard Sales  and my garage sale guide that tells you How To Find The Best Garage Sales in your area.

Target

I share my Target shopping trips every week on my Instagram page. During those shopping trips, I share what is a good deal, what is worth spending you money on and also what you shouldn’t spend your money on because you can DIY it at home to save a ton of money. Target is one of my favorite stores for a lot of things.

I love walking around there to get inspired. My favorite way to shop Target is through the clearance. I have found some pretty amazing things on clearance there. They have great sales and the Cartwheel coupons have saved me a lot of money as well. If you shop Target often and learn their sales and clearance routine, you can definitely score high-end decor for less.

Walmart

Walmart has come a long way in home decor. A LONG WAY! I have been blown away with some of the things I have found in store and online there. I share a lot of my favorite things on my Facebook page. Walmart is keeping up with the trends and their prices are a lot cheaper than I have found on other sites and stores. Don’t brush them off. Browse the home decor and furniture section of their website to see what I mean.

Amazon

Amazon is my favorite place to check for a cheaper deal. Recently, we were working on our bedroom makeover and Matt and I were at Home Depot looking for a closet solution. I found something I liked, but couldn’t believe it was $200!! So, while I was there in the store, I looked on Amazon and found one for $50! $150 savings. I ALWAYS price compare on Amazon. It has saved us a ton of money. You can’t beat 1-2 day FREE shipping either.

Decorating is so fun, but can get expensive. I am showing you 10 places to get a high end look for less so you can have the house of your dreams and stay on budget at the same time.

TJ Maxx/Home Goods

These two stores have my heart. If I am looking for something new for our home, I like to start with these two stores. These stores offer higher end products at a discounted price. The only downfall to these stores is that they are hit and miss and usually have a limited supply. You never know what they are going to have and if you find something you love, they may only have a few of them. When you find something you like at either one of these stores, BUY IT!

You can always return it if it doesn’t work, but you aren’t guaranteed that will have those items if you come back the next day to get them. I have learned this the hard way. There have been so many times I have liked something in one of these stores, but didn’t buy it because I wasn’t sure. Then, I would go home, decide it is what I wanted and go back the next day to find it gone. It is very frustrating, but I have learned. If I like it, I buy it. No matter what. I return a lot, but at least I get the item to see if it will work before they are out of it completely.

Auctions

An auction is “a public sale in which goods or property are sold to the highest bidder” (Oxford Dictionaries).

Auctions are a great place to find unique items for your home. Depending on the auction and the people who are there, you can score some great pieces for little money. My advice for shopping auctions is to go early and see what they have. If you find something you like, go over it with a fine-tooth comb.

You want to know exactly what you are bidding on and going over it well will also help you decide what your top bid will be. Auctions can last a long time, so plan ahead with snacks, water, comfy shoes and maybe even a chair depending on where the auction is.

IKEA

IKEA is a place I go to grab specific things at a lower price. My favorite thing to pick up there are the throw pillow inserts and throw pillow covers. Our problem is that the closest IKEA is about 4 hours away. I don’t get there often, but when I do, I am usually grabbing the same things and seeing what else they have for the season we are in.

Flea Markets

I don’t need to say much about flea markets. They are so much fun to go to and sometimes you can find great deals on amazing decor for your home. My advice for shopping flea markets is two-fold. If you want to get the best pick of what is there, go early. You will probably be paying full price, but you will get the first pick. If you want to get great pieces, but don’t want to spend a lot, wait until the last day or last few hours of the market when sellers want to get rid of things.

Sellers are usually more willing to negotiate at this time and there is always something worth grabbing at the end of a flea market. You have to decide what is more important. If you want to save money, I challenge you to only go on the last day towards closing time and see what treasures you can find. If you are looking for a particular piece or certain decor items, go early.

WayFair

WayFair is another good site to check when you are shopping for high-end decor for less. They have some “open box” items that are discounted and they run sales all the time. WayFair is another site I check when I am on a more expensive brand’s website or in a more expensive store. I go to WayFair to see if I can find something similar for a cheaper deal and almost always, I find something. WayFair has a lot of similar items to what more expensive brands have at a fraction of the price.
