Flipping furniture looks different with every piece. One of my favorite things about flipping furniture is that it never gets boring because every piece brings a new creative challenge and every piece needs something different. There are many ways to add value to your flipped furniture pieces to make them amazing for your home or to sell them fast and for top dollar if you are a seller. Today, I am going to talk about 10 ways to add value to your pieces.
10 Ways To Add Value To Your Flipped Furniture Pieces
- Paint furniture in a color that will appeal to the buyer.
This is a big way to add value to your flipped furniture pieces. If you are painting the piece, paint it in a color that is popular in your area. Neutral colors are always the best option because they go with any style. Choosing the right paint color is key to selling your pieces fast.
- Replace old hardware with new hardware.
I love to keep the original hardware when I can but sometimes that is not an option. Hardware is like the jewelry on a piece of furniture. Choose it wisely. It will make the biggest difference to your piece.
- Add legs.
Adding legs can turn pieces into something that looks much more expensive and custom-made. Adding casters is another great way to add value and interest. Always be on the lookout for casters and furniture legs when shopping at your local Restore, yard sales, and auctions.
You can always add value and interest to a piece of furniture when you are doing a makeover.
- Make sure that the piece is clean.
Don’t skip the cleaning process! I share how to clean a piece of furniture HERE. Not only is it a step you can’t skip when painting a piece, but you also need to make sure the piece is good and clean when you go to sell it.
PRO TIP: I have made a great profit on pieces that just needed a good cleaning. That was all I did to them before I sold them. Sometimes, all a piece needs is a good cleaning to make it amazing again.
- Don’t just paint over problems.
You need to repair anything and everything that needs it BEFORE you apply any primer or paint. If you can see something that needs to be fixed, painting over it will only highlight those areas. Make sure to repair what needs it before you start the makeover.
- Have patience, be persistent, and keep improving your skills and techniques to produce better pieces.
As you do more and more projects your skill set will improve. Trust the process. Welcome the mistakes and failures because you will learn so much from every single one of them. Everyone has to start somewhere. Keep it up and you will be amazed how far you will come in just a few projects.
- Use social media to increase your potential customer pool and exposure to your work.
The world is online now. Use that to your advantage. Start a social media account around your projects! It is amazing what can come from consistent posting and engaging with your audience. If you want help with posting, I am offering my monthly social media planner to everyone! This planner does all the work for you. You can find it HERE.
You can add value to furniture pieces with simple changes as well as major fixes that improve the aesthetics and functionality of the item.
- Base the makeover around its style.
Think about the style of the piece when you are planning the makeover. Make it believable. Make it something that fits or works with the style. That way, you keep the integrity of the style as you update it.
- Use your creativity.
Flipping furniture is an amazing creative outlet. Try new things. Try new techniques.
- Add features or update features to make pieces more functional or appealing to today’s homeowners.
One of my favorite things to do with furniture pieces is to upcycle them. I talk all about upcycling furniture HERE. I have taken the worst of the worst pieces and added features to them to make them functional for the way people live today. Try it! The next time you see a piece that has seen better days, think of how you could add to it or change it to make it functional and pretty again.
