Flipping furniture has not only furnished our home, but it has provided income from the pieces I sell. I get a lot of questions about the process of flipping furniture and what is the best way to makeover a piece of furniture. In this blog post, I am going to share 10 ways to transform furniture. There are even more options than this, but this is the list I would share with someone just starting out or someone who is looking for a different method to try.

Paint
Paint is one of the easiest ways to transform furniture. With paint, you have endless possibilities of what the piece can look like when it is done. I have painted so many furniture pieces over the years. And, I have also tried MANY paint brands. I have found that THIS PAINT and THIS PAINT are the easiest to work with. Each brand has many other products that I love too (topcoats, primers, salves, get stains, tools, etc.). I would recommend these to anyone. They will both give you a beautiful finish in the end.
Stain
Stain alone can do wonders on a piece of furniture. I have found pieces that only needed a good cleaning and a coat of stain to make them look amazing again. I always have this stain and this gel stain on hand. They are both great.
Appliques
There are many applique options for furniture. They add a touch of pizzazz and character that an otherwise boring piece. Appliques can totally change the look of a piece of furniture into something you didn’t think possible. I encourage you to give them a try. Find a piece that could use them and have fun with it. Transfers
Transfers are really becoming popular for furniture pieces. It is an easy way to add something special to a piece of furniture. They are easy to put on and if top coated right, will last forever. I love the transfers HERE.

Restor-A-Finish
This stuff is AMAZING! I will always have this on hand. I have shared it so many times on so many projects. There have been many times when I bring home a piece of furniture and all it needs is Restor-A-Finish. This dresser was made over with Restor alone and I loved it so much, I didn’t sell it. It is still in our bedroom today.
Strip & Refinish
I don’t do this often because it is a lot of work. BUT…… I just found a new way of stripping furniture that is less messy, less time-consuming, and easier than your traditional stripping gel. I share all about it on my YouTube channel HERE. Since this worked so well, I am now going to try it on so many pieces. It is a game-changer. The mirror above was stripped with this process.
Wood
Sometimes, a furniture piece can feel flat. A good way to add dimension to the piece is by adding wood. Cutting thin plywood to frame a drawer or add a design to a drawer is a great way to add texture, dimension, and something interesting to an otherwise boring piece.
Salve
Ever since I discovered this salve, I have been hooked. I use this stuff on everything! It conditions wood and makes it come alive once applied. I found a library table in a garage at a yard sale. I brought it home and applied the salve to it. That’s all I had to do to this ginormous table. It brought the wood back to life and now, it is one of my favorite pieces in our home. Waxes/Glazes
Wax and glaze do an amazing job of transferring furniture. One of my favorite ways to use waxes and glazes is over paint. Most of the time, I am grabbing a dark wax or glaze when I want to deepen the color of a painted piece. It adds so much charm and character and makes a painted piece look totally different. Waxes and glazes are easy to use too.
Upcycled Furniture
This is another favorite of mine – upcycling furniture pieces to get new pieces and decor. I love this topic so much that I wrote a blog post called Upcycling Furniture 101. That post is packed full of all the ways you can upcycle furniture including examples of the projects we have done over the years. Some of my favorite projects have come from upcycling furniture.
