5 Cheap and Easy DIY Projects for Different Rooms

Paint The Tub
If you have a yellow, blue, pink, or green bathtub and you really want to make over the bathroom but you don’t have the money or the time to put in a whole new tub, PAINT IT! Yep! You read that right. Paint the bathtub. We have done this in two of our investment properties and it worked so great. It was an easy and inexpensive way to get rid of ugly tubs when we didn’t have the budget to rip them out and put in new ones. You can see how easy this is to do in my post HERE. We have also painted tile when we didn’t have the budget to get it all new. This was another easy and inexpensive project. You can see all the details of that process HERE.

DIY Closet Doors
We have small bedrooms in our home. One thing I didn’t like was the bi-fold closet doors in every bedroom. I didn’t like them because when you opened them, they took up so much space in the bedroom. We decided to DIY some closet doors that looked great and didn’t take up any space inside the bedrooms when the closets were open. To see how we made DIY closet doors inexpensively and in one day, head HERE.

Add A FREE Feature Wall
This is still one of my favorite projects we have done in our home. When we added the back porch to our house, I really wanted to make the back wall stand out. I wanted to add something to it to make the space feel cozier. We came up with an easy solution that cost us NOTHING! It was FREE! See how we got a rustic, wood feature wall for free and how easy it was to install HERE.

Paint The Walls
Paint is the easiest and most inexpensive way to give a room an entirely new look in one day or even an afternoon, depending on the size of the space. We have painted every room in our home a few times. It is the first thing I think to do when I want to change the look and feel in a space in our home. I share all the tips for prepping walls before painting HERE.

Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets
This made the biggest difference in our kitchen. Our cabinets were in great condition, but they were the bright ’70s orange oak that wasn’t working with the direction I wanted to go in our kitchen. Now, painting kitchen cabinets does take some time, but it is an easy DIY project. It is also the cheapest way to change your cabinets and the look of your kitchen without having to rip everything out and buy new. Since doing our kitchen cabinets, we have also painted other kitchen cabinets in our investment properties. I get a lot of questions about the process and have written a few posts about them. To see our kitchen cabinets and what we learned through that process, head HERE. I also wrote a post all about how to prep cabinets for paint HERE. I also share some tips for picking out the best hardware HERE.
These 5 cheap and easy DIY projects will make a big difference in your home. If you have been thinking about painting a room, go for it. If you really want to paint the kitchen cabinets but you are worried about the process, don’t be. It is some work, but it is easy work and the outcome will make you wish you hadn’t waited so long. Promise.
