Today, I am going to share 5 ways to simplify your laundry routine so it isn’t a stressful chore and you can take back time in your week.
Dear, laundry. We love you. You make our clothes clean and smellin’ good. You are the reason we love to jump into bed after the sheets get cleaned. We look forward to hanging our clothes and linens on the line on a warm, summer day because of you. There are so many wonderful things about you, but you are the one chore that wears on us because you are never complete. You take up too much of our time and we are ready to take that time back.
5 Ways To Simplify Your Laundry Routine
One Load A Day:
Yep. I said it. If you can do one load of laundry a day, you will free up so much time. Make laundry part of your routine every morning. Doing a load a day will make laundry more manageable. Add it to the washer in the morning, dryer after work or during lunch, and then fold before you go to bed. Bam! Laundry isn’t so daunting anymore.
Everyone Chips In:
Everyone in the family has laundry, so everyone should chip in to get the chore done. Even toddlers should help to their capacity. When you start them young to get in the habit, it will become second nature as they grow up. There are many ways to get everyone involved in the laundry chore. You can assign days of the week for each person. Maybe assign different parts of the chore to each person. So and so brings all the laundry to the laundry room for the next person to start it. Maybe someone carries the laundry upstairs so another person can fold, etc. Someone can be in charge of starting a load and another is in charge of switching it over. There are many ways to make sure everyone in the household has their hands in the laundry chore.
For kids, prepare them each week for their assigned day. I believe when they know ahead of time, there is less moaning and groaning when it comes times to actually doing it. If you don’t have kids, you and your spouse can split up the task. Are you are a morning person? You can start a load every morning. If your husband is a night owl, he can fold the laundry as he watches TV at night. Whatever the dynamic is in your family, get everyone to chip in to make laundry more simple.
Supplies Handy:
There is nothing worse than doing chores and not having the right supplies handy and ready to go. No matter what the chore is, you should always have the supplies you need for that chore easily accessible where the chore takes place. Laundry is no different. You should have any and all supplies you need to do laundry next to the washer and dryer. This includes stain fighters, detergent, wool dryer balls, fabric softener, bleach, starch, etc. Whatever you use to get laundry done should be ready to go when you are.
Multiple Hampers:
In our house, every bedroom has a hamper. This helps with the overwhelm. If there is only one hamper for all the laundry, it will fill up quickly and be a constant reminder of what needs to be done. No one wants that constant reminder. Having a hamper in each bedroom helps spread out the laundry. If you are doing one load a day, the hampers will never be overflowing with laundry.
Don’t Separate Too Much:
Don’t feel like you have to separate every piece of laundry. It is okay to wash laundry together. I know some people have certain pieces they will only wash together. That is great, but if you can start putting more laundry in the machine together, it will simplify your laundry routine. I am not someone who separates everything. The towels get washed together. Everything else pretty much gets washed together. I have never had a problem doing laundry that way. Everything comes clean. I know there are cases when work clothes or farm clothes should be washed separately from other laundry. Those cases are few and far between. If you don’t have laundry that falls in those kinds of categories, try combining more of your laundry. It will make a huge difference.
I hope these 5 Ways To Simplify Your Laundry Routine are helpful. Simplifying chores and having an organized home makes for a better lifestyle and less stress in your day.
