I am a blog ambassador for Lakeshore. This post for Cool Gifts For Kids has been compensated.
It is Christmas season and time to start thinking about gifts; not only for the entire family, but for the kids on our list. Cool gifts for kids are so hard to buy sometimes. Kids always have a long list of things they want, but as parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, we often struggle with which gift is a “good” gift to give them. Lakeshore Learning has so many great options in their Gifts for Growing Minds catalog. It is packed full of gift ideas that encourage a child’s creativity and imagination. Today, I am sharing a few more that would be great additions under the Christmas tree this year.
I have worked with children for the past twenty-some years. I have learned so much throughout those years and when we had our own kids, I knew a few things I wanted to instill in them and imagination and creativity were high on that list.
Today, kids spend way too much time in front of some kind of electronic device. When we were little, there weren’t all the video games, apps and social media stuff that there is today. We had to use our imagination and come up with creative ways to entertain ourselves. Once we had our kids, I wanted them to have those same principles. I wanted them to spend their time imagining and creating ways to entertain themselves that had nothing to do with electronics. You can’t believe the magic that happens when kids are able to think that way. It is so fun to watch.
When the holidays roll around and we start thinking about gifts for kids on our list, we always keep those principles in mind. Lakeshore Learning is such a great resource for creative gifts. Their Gifts for Growing Minds catalog highlights some of our favorites.
The Panda Village Block Set is a gift that makes the kids use their imagination to create all kinds of different scenarios. There is no right or wrong way to do it and the possibilities are endless. Gifts like this always amaze me to watch kids interact with. Our daughter had this set configured a thousand different ways and then she added more animals to it and set up an animal training school with it.
My First Fashion Designer is a great gift for the little designer you have on your list. This set comes with all kinds of fabric and embellishments to make the cutest outfits. As a mom, I love that this set is reusable! The little buttons that come with it fit inside the back of the mannequin to hold the outfit together and when the child wants a different design, they just remove the buttons and start over. No glue, no scissors, no mess and no fabric wasted. Our daughter loved this one.
Now, you know that being the DIY junkie that I am, I love it when our kids show interest in building and making things on their own. The Build Your Own Horse Stable is a great gift idea for this. Not only do they come away with a fun toy to play with, but they get to build it themselves! Our daughter thrives with activities like this. It builds her confidence and shows her that she is way more capable than she gives herself credit for. Her brother builds things and with toys and activities like this one, she can do it right along with him.
Cool gifts for kids are hard to buy sometimes, but when you think of the overall picture and what kids are great at, creativity and imagination, it makes the gift-buying process much easier.

What a way to go! I agree, today our kids are spending to much time on video games. They are spending to little time exercising their brain. I love this idea of more creativity and reading more.
