Signs are so much fun. I have DIYed many and am always inspired by signs I see in stores and magazines. This Repurposed DIY Fall Sign came from a dumpster find my mom found at our local grocery store. Usually, when Matt and I have scrap wood left over from bigger projects, we turn them into some kind of sign or wall art. It is a great way to use the scraps and repurpose them into something beautiful instead of burning them or throwing them out.
When my mom saw these arrows heading for the dumpster at our grocery store, she asked if she could have them. I have a great mom. She knew they had potential to become something. (I get a lot of my creativeness and DIY genes from her.)
When she brought the arrows to our house, I immediately told her that they would be turned into some kind of sign in no time.
The arrows were obviously part of a display. My mom hates to see things headed for the trash when she knows they have potential. I am so glad I have “my people” out there looking for great pieces to bring to me. 🙂 The arrows have been in the garage for a few months and as I started pulling out fall decor, I saw them again and knew they would become a Repurposed DIY Fall Sign.

The first thing I did was sand down both sides of the wood arrows. Then, I painted over the advertisements with two coats of “Coal Black” from Fusion Mineral Paint.
Once the second coat of black paint dried, I painted two coats of “Picket Fence” from Fusion Mineral Paint.
Once the white paint dried, I used sandpaper to rough up the paint a little bit. The sanding allowed the black paint to pop through the white paint perfectly and it made them looked aged.
To make the arrows become a fall sign, I grabbed the fall stencils I picked up on clearance at Target last year. I used a pouncer and black craft paint to put the words on the arrows.
Once the paint dried, I sanded the signs again to lighten the words and make them look like they had faded over time.
The Repurposed DIY Fall Sign fit perfectly above our entry table. It finished out the fall decor in this little spot.
I will be sharing more of the fall decor in our home soon. Do you decorate for fall? Do you have signs in your home?
