Fall porch decor. When I hear the word “porch” I automatically picture a wrap-around, covered front porch on an old farmhouse. Those are what my porch dreams are made of. When I was asked to be a part of this fall porch decor blog hop, I didn’t know if I would share our front “porch” or our back porch. We don’t have a “what dreams are made of” front porch, but ever since I gave the front patio a makeover, we have really enjoyed spending time on it.
To start bringing fall decor to the outside of our home, I took advantage of the mums I found at Aldi for $3! I bought nine of them and put them in the galvanized buckets and cans on the front porch. Then, I started looking for pretty pumpkins. Blog posts are planned and written well before they are published so a lot of times, I am decorating for new seasons before the seasons are actually here. That means, I have a hard time finding things for the new season. I could not find pretty pumpkins. #bloggerproblems
So, instead of spending a ton of money on pumpkins I didn’t love, I decided to share how I brought fall porch decor to our favorite football watching zone (when it isn’t 90° outside!).
The back porch!
Whenever I start planning for new decor, I have to first think about how we use the space I am decorating. First and foremost, we live here. Our home has to function for our needs, be comfortable to spend time in and at the end of the list, needs to be pretty. (Well, maybe it isn’t last far down on the list.)
Our back porch is our hang out. When the weather is nice, the boys watch all of the football games in the porch and we eat meals in the porch.
When I am decorating for a new season, I have to keep in mind our needs for living in the space. Simple fall touches here and there are all our back porch needs.
Since the back porch gets so much use, the fall porch decor needs to be practical. The TV has to be viewed from all seats and the tables need to be open enough for plates and cups to be set on. Tailgating is always happening on the weekends so eating in the porch is inevitable during the football season.
As far as the front porch goes, I am hoping to find a few pumpkins.
I love decorating for each and every season. It is what makes me happy. I get to think outside of the box with each new season and holiday.
