Low Growing Shrubs To Add Curb Appeal At The Flip

3 Mins read

We have been moving right along with the flip house. Even though the Iowa weather has not wanted to cooperate with us, it is still moving along. Since we closed on the house on March 3rd, we have had a few days here and there where we were able to get some work done outside. Other than that, it has been too cold. Today, I am going to talk about the low growing shrubs we added to the front of this flip.

The outside of a flip property is even more important because that is the first impression someone will have when they pull up to see the house. Today, I am going to share with you some tips and tricks for sprucing up the curb appeal for your house so you can make a great impression from the start.

When we bought our current flip house, there was absolutely nothing planted in the front yard. The house itself was cute with the white exterior and black shutters so I knew I wanted to add some greenery to the front. To me, the curb appeal is everything you can see from the street. With this house, I painted the front door black to tie in with the shutters. We washed the siding, gutters and windows.

To add green to the front, we brought in a load of dirt to raise the right side of the yard against the house. Water was collecting in that area because it was so low. The extra dirt around the foundation of the house builds up the base and by grading it away from the house, rain water will flow away from the house and into the yard.

After the fill dirt, we started planning some simple ways to bring more life to the front of the house.

Since there is a front stoop and sidewalk on the left side of the house, we wanted to balance that visual on the right side of the house.

I decided to go with the First Editions® Little Devil™ Ninebark. I didn’t want something that would over-power the front of the house, but I did want a plant that was substantial enough to make a statement.

The Little Devil Ninebark has beautiful dark green leaves now and it will have darker purple/mauve color leaves once they grow. These low growing shrubs will not get too high, but will fill in the right side of the flip house nicely.

There is something about black, white and green that makes my decorating heart happy. I love the color combination and after we had the mulch put down, the curb appeal really looked so simple and pretty. This little house has come such a far way. It is so satisfying taking a house that hasn’t been taken care of and making it into something that is super cute and full of life. These low growing shrubs add that final touch the front needed.
