This bedroom chest makeover was done with paint andsandpaper.
Bedroom chest, dresser, chest of drawers…. whatever you call it, I am hooked on picking them up. If I see potential in a bedroom chest and it is a great price, it is coming home with me. Even if we don’t have room for it, transforming pieces I find and sharing them here is what I am passionate about. A piece with potential is not safe in my path. I will snag it up without second guessing it.
I found this bedroom chest at a yard sale this summer.

I even thought about trying to match the color on the others drawers, but there were so many layers of wear and tear that I would have never been able to replicate it.
The top was not in great condition either, but I was willing to work with it if the drawers were all the same color.
To start the bedroom chest makeover, I sanded one of the drawers to see what I was left with. If I could get the drawers down to the natural wood, I was going to do with that, but as you can see from the photo below, that didn’t work.
The wood was not going to match the bare drawer so I had to move on to Plan B. Paint.
I have wanted to use Dixie Belle Paint – “Savannah Mist” on a project and this was going to be the project to do it.
The key holes on the drawers already had paint over them from the original paint, but I didn’t want to go over them with the Savannah Mist. The paint brush that makes this kind of “cutting-in” paint work so easy is my Zibra Palm Pro Paint Brush.
I have talked about this paint brush more times than I can count, but my love for it runs deep. I use it on all kinds of projects, but especially for things like trimming and projects that I need to cut in close with paint. The small size makes it feel like it is an extension of my hand so I can maneuver it around anything easily.
Once I got a couple of coats of the paint on, I had to rough it up a bit with my orbital sander. Any time I find a piece that has dark wood on it, I love adding a light paint color over it. When I distress it, all the dark wood pops out. It is one of my favorite ways to make over pieces like this.
While I was sanding the drawers and the rest of the dresser, I went over the key holes a few times with the sander. It brought out the gold color on the metal, but left some of the old paint on them as well. I love the way they look.
The top was fun to see what would happen after I sanded it. It had a different texture on it than the rest of the bedroom chest. I was a little nervous it wouldn’t turn out. It held the paint more than the front did, but it looks great.
Another bedroom chest saved from the landfill and brought back to life from the front porch it was living on! #challengecompleted #missionaccomplished
What color would you have painted this bedroom chest?
