Facebook Marketplace: The Place To Find Projects

If you have been following me here long enough, you know that I am always on the hunt for my next project. I find potential in so many things that my creative mind is running a mile a minute, scheming up new projects and ideas. I am always searching for pieces that are unique and have tons of potential, but that need a little work to get them there. When I get the chance to hunt for projects, I have my regular route of stores in our area. I will also stop at yard sales and estate sales when they are going on. The thing about shopping like this is that it is never guaranteed that I will find something. I can spend an entire day hunting for projects and come home empty-handed. Not only is it frustrating, but it is also a waste of valuable time.

In the last couple of months, my family and friends have been telling me I need to sell things I am getting rid of on Facebook Marketplace. I never even thought to sell things there, but I decided to give it a try. After I sold my first thing, I thought it might be worth shopping on Facebook Marketplace for projects. Let me tell ya, it was worth it. I have found many projects on Facebook Marketplace that I would love to tackle since browsing it for the first time.

Facebook Marketplace is the perfect place to find great items, and sell those you may not use anymore. You don’t have to do anything extra to use it (a huge plus). A few features I really like are being able to check out a person’s public Facebook profile before buying from them and keeping all conversations about the item in Messenger. As an added bonus, you can also save searches so you get alerted when things on your list pop up for sale.

The first thing I bought on Facebook Marketplace a couple of weeks ago was this table.

I loved the scalloped detail it had, and the legs were also full of detail. I messaged the seller and asked for the dimensions and some questions on the condition. She responded quickly and told me the size and she did say that it did need some work, but it was a solid, wood table.

We set up a time for me to check it out. Once I saw it in person, I was hooked. I knew it had loads of potential and it needed to come home with me. The green top was beautiful and the detail was better in person. The other great thing that I got from this purchase was a great connection! The person I bought it from picks up pieces to sell as her business. Her garage was full of amazing treasures.

Now that I know who she is, I will be checking out everything she posts on Facebook Marketplace. A great table and a great connection while browsing Facebook Marketplace – I count that as a win!

Okay, let’s get back to the table and what I did to it to give it a makeover.

The first thing I did was give the entire piece a good cleaning. Then, I painted the legs and scalloped sides white.

I knew the white paint would make the details pop. I was right.

It killed me to get rid of the pretty green top, but the finish was not good and it didn’t look good against the painted bottom half.

I used my orbital sander to sand it all down. As I was sanding, some of the green color was stubborn. I liked that it was. I decided to leave it there because I was hoping some of the green color would pop through the stain I was going to put on the top. Green is my favorite color. I use it in my decorating all the time, so being able to salvage some of it made me happy.

I added a dark walnut stain to the top of the table because I love the mix of wood and paint.

Look at the table now!!!!

I distressed the legs and the sides with hand-held sandpaper. I wanted a little more highlight to the details and the distressing accomplished that.

The outcome is so good! It is the sweetest table, loaded with detail and the green color is still there in all the best places.

I put the table in between the chairs in our living room and it fits perfectly. There is a green cabinet that is usually in this spot. Now, I am deciding which piece is going to make the cut.
