- Two 18″ Christmas trees from the Dollar Store (each swag will need 2 trees). I got mine at Dollar Tree for $1.25.
- Floral wire
- Ribbon (for the bow)
- Optional: Pine cones, ornaments, or extra greenery stems
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Prepare Your Dollar Store Christmas Trees: Start by unpacking your two 18″ Dollar Store Christmas trees. Gently separate the branches to give the trees a fuller look but keep the back flat. You want all of the fullness in front like a swag would be. You can adjust the branches when you get it all done as well.
- Create the Base of the Swag: Take the two trees and position one on top of the other. Use floral wire to secure them together at the top and bottom. This step ensures your swag has a sturdy foundation.
- Shape and Fluff: Once the trees are secured, gently fluff the branches to create a natural, spread-out effect. Be sure to shape them in a way that they create a cascading look, which is key for beautiful swag. The fuller you make the trees, the more impactful your swag will look!
- Add Ribbon Bow: Using ribbon you already have to create a simple bow for your swag. Or, pick up a big bow at the dollar store. The size of the bow depends on your preference, but a large, full bow typically works best for this kind of decoration. It will help hide the end of the tree at the top and it will cover some of the “cheaper” stems these trees have. Secure the bow to the top of the swag using floral wire.
