I want to thank Zibra Paint for partnering with me on this makeover and creating the best paint brushes for furniture makeovers.
Today, I am going to share this transformation with you and talk about why Zibra Paint Brushes are the best paint brushes for furniture makeovers.
This chest of drawers was not in the pristine condition when I got it, but what is new? I am never looking for perfect pieces to rescue and make over. What I do look for are great bones, sturdy pieces and drawers that function well. This piece had all of that going for it.
I was so bummed to see that all the original hardware was on the piece except one. I feel like I would have felt better if there was more than one handle missing; like it wouldn’t be as bad. Missing only one handle is frustrating because we were so close to having them all on it. 🙂
This piece showed up at the right time. I had just received my paint order from Dixie Belle Paint and I was excited to try a new color on this piece. I went live on my Facebook page to share the new colors, my favorite paint brushes and the piece as it looked when I brought it home.

I was asking my Facebook audience to choose a color for this dresser from the colors I shared in my Dixie Belle Paint order. There wasn’t one vote that really out-weighed the others, so I took matters into my own hands and chose a color I have never used before and a color I wanted to try as soon as I saw it out of the box. I painted this piece in “Sawmill Gravy”.
I am telling you, this may be a new favorite color of mine. Dixie Belle is killing it with paint colors!! I am so excited with the direction they have been going and the color choices are getting harder and harder to choose because they are all so so good.
This color is a creamy greige. It is beautiful.
Since the drawers on this dresser were in great condition, I was able to keep them as the wood color and just paint the outer shell of the piece.
The drawers turned out so well and I love the way they look against the paint color.
The Steps I Took To Make Over This Dresser:
I removed all of the hardware and cleaned the dresser really well with Thieves cleaner and a washcloth. Then, I used Restor-A-Finish on all of the drawers to bring the wood back to life. I used the neutral color first, but then decided to put the walnut color on top of that. I just used an old rag to rub the Restor-A-Finish on the drawers. While the drawers were drying, I painted the outer shell of the dresser in “Sawmill Gravy” and the Palm Pro from Zibra Paint.
If you have been here for any time, you know I have a huge crush on Zibra Paint brushes. They are the only paint brush line I have found that was made for DIYers like me. They have all shapes and sizes of paint brushes for all of your painting needs. The bristles never fall off during a project and once I clean them, they are good as new and ready for my next project. My favorite paint brush from Zebra is the Palm Pro, but I use them all for different projects. If you are looking for a great paint brush, you must get these in your toolbox. You will thank me.

How Do You Clean A Paint Brush?
I have tried many different things when cleaning a paint brush. I love this method for cleaning a paint brush and Dixie Belle also has a great product for cleaning brushes. The important thing is to clean the paint brush right after you use it. Clean it thoroughly and let it dry fully. I like to run the brush under hot water to get most of the paint out of the brush. When the water starts running clear, I move the brush out of the water and add the cleaner to the brush and massage it in with my fingers.
Once the soap starts foaming and is massaged in all of the bristles, I rinse it out fully under warm water. When I am sure all the paint and the soap are out of the brush, I lay the brush on the counter with the bristles hanging over the sink so it drains into the sink and dries completely. NEVER LEAVE A PAINT BRUSH, BRISTLE SIDE UP WHEN DRYING.
