Creamy White Boho Buffet Makeover

4 Mins read

I want to thank Zibra Painting for partnering with me on this Creamy White Boho Buffet Makeover. All opinions on their amazing brushes are my own.

I love buffets!

Buffets are one of my favorite pieces of furniture because –

  • they can be used in many rooms
  • they offer a lot of storage
  • AND, they can be made over to fit any style.

Whenever I find a buffet that has loads of potential and is a good price, I pick it up. They aren’t easy to come by around here. I can find dressers a lot easier than I can find buffets.

So, when a friend reached out to me while she was at a yard sale and said there were some pieces I might be interested in, I hurried over there. There were two buffets at this sale. They were both priced right, but one of them had been a chewing toy for a dog. The legs were pretty chewed up and would not be easy to fix.

This buffet, however, was in pretty good condition and I couldn’t wait to get it home.

When I saw this buffet, I immediately thought it had a boho vibe. Maybe it was the way the wind was blowing that day or the fact that I had been looking at boho inspiration for a few weeks, but I could see it in this piece. To be honest, I think it was the tone of the wood that gave it a boho look to me. Whatever it was, I am calling it the Creamy White Boho Buffet Makeover because I can see it. 🙂

The drawer fronts and the doors were in great condition so I knew I would not paint them.

There was another amazing thing this piece had going for it.

Can you see it?

peeling veneer

IT STILL HAD ALL THE ORIGINAL HARDWARE!!! (*insert happy dancing emoji)

The legs had some peeling veneer, but you know that is not a deal-breaker for me. I have found three easy ways to remedy peeling veneer. I can fix it as I did with this dresser makeover or I can remove it with this easy process. Since it was only on the legs, I used one of my favorite tools and was able to remove it as I did with this green makeover.

Once I had the veneer issue taken care of, I sanded to legs to make them smooth and ready for paint.

Then, it was time to give the buffet a good cleaning. A lot of times, I just use a damp cloth to clean furniture pieces. If they need more than that, I will use a vinegar and water mixture or my Thieves cleaner.

Once the buffet was clean and dry, it was time for paint.

Supplies Used In This Creamy White Boho Buffet Makeover:

“Drop Cloth” Dixie Belle Paint

Zibra Paint Brushes

Clear Coat – Dixie Belle Paint

Heat Gun (to remove veneer)

Restor-A-Finish

You know if I am painting something, I am grabbing my favorite paintbrushes. Zibra brushes make all my painting work easier and more successful. For this project, I used the 2″ angled brush. This has quickly become one of my favorite brushes. A lot of the furniture pieces I paint have ridges, details, and angles and this brush gets in all the crevices and around all the curves with ease.

I chose to paint this piece “Drop Cloth” from Dixie Belle Paint. This color is a beautiful, creamy, white color. It is perfect for any style, but I thought it would really go well with the wood tones on the buffet.

This piece took two coats of paint to cover it. Once I had the outside done, I decided to paint the doors as well. I left the drawer fronts unpainted.

top coat

Once the paint was dry, I added a good coat of the Flat Top Coat from Dixie Belle Paint. I love using this top coat on pieces because there is no sheen to it. You can’t tell there is a topcoat on it. It gives it a protective layer without making it shiny. I really like using the Chiseled Wedge brush from Zibra Painting to apply top coats.

Once the Clear Coat was dry, I used one of my favorite products on the drawer fronts – Restor-A-Finish. This stuff is amazing! It cleaned up the drawer fronts perfectly! They look brand new. I use an old rag to apply the Restor-A-Finish. It is so easy to use and you can’t mess it up. It comes in a few colors. I used the neutral color for the drawer fronts. If you work on wood projects, you need to have this stuff on hand. You will be amazed by what it can do.

I shared this entire makeover as I was doing it on my Instagram stories and Facebook page.

Make sure you are following over there to see behind-the-scenes looks at projects as I am doing them. I got the most response as I was sharing the difference in the drawer fronts as I applied the Restor-A-Finish. The difference was unbelievable.

Once everything was dry and the drawers were done, I put the hardware back on.

Sadly, we don’t have room for this gem, so it had to be sold.

Even when I can’t keep them, I still love finding pieces to rescue, making them over, and offering them to others who can use them and have the room.

The piece turned out so pretty. It is a favorite for sure. The new owners were excited to get it home.
