This Painted Buffet Makeover is like no other I have shared. The odds of this makeover will never happen again (I guess I should never say never). Finding pieces to breathe new life into is my goal every time I head out. I never know what I will find, but when I see it, I know it is meant to come home with me. This buffet makeover is different because my blog friend and mentor found almost the exact piece on the same weekend!
Gina from The Shabby Creek Cottage was looking for a piece to add to her living room makeover and I am just always looking for pieces that need a little TLC. We are calling this a “Freaky Friday Makeover” because this was not planned and the similarities are “freaky”. 🙂 The story goes something like this: Gina found a dresser that she wanted to make over and use as her entertainment center in her living room. The dresser fell through while I was out on my normal yard sale hunt and found this piece.

A few days later, I asked Gina about her dresser and she told me how it didn’t pan out and that she had found a different piece instead.
Imagine my surprise when she sent me this photo???
I laughed out loud and quickly sent her a picture of what I had picked up over the weekend. My buffet even had some of the veneer coming off at the bottom like hers. The hardware on mine is different and mine has more of an ornate detail on the edges, but pretty much, we bought the same piece that weekend!
I couldn’t believe it. We were both surprised! Gina lives in Tennessee and I live in Iowa. What are the odds that we would find the same piece to make over at the same time?
Sometimes, when I rescue a piece, I already have a plan for it before I get it home. This particular buffet was planned out when I got it home, but then I received a box of paints from Fusion Mineral Paint that day. When I opened the box and saw Bayberry in there, my heart skipped a beat.
I have a thing for green and this color is beautiful. I thought about changing the color of the buffet to BayBerry (hence the reason there is a swipe of it on the buffet before I even take “before” photos). Then, thinking about it and deciding that I would probably have to sell this piece, I went with my original plan.
This piece was in great condition, but there were several scratches on it. I didn’t love the cherry color of the wood so I knew I would paint it when I bought it. All of the original hardware was still on the buffet and I knew the paint would bring out the pretty details this piece has.
To start the painted buffet makeover, I used a cotton cloth and rubbed the entire buffet with Latex Agent’s Oil Bond. When I have a high gloss/shiny piece like this, I always use a product like this or sand the piece to ensure the paint is going to stick really well.
CAUTION: For all of you who are furniture purists and would never dream of painting wood furniture, turn away now.
Don’t look!
You are about to enter a painted furniture zone.
Look at the painted buffet now!!! I chose “Bedford” from Fusion Mineral Paint and It. Is. Beautiful!
The new color compliments the hardware nicely.
I love buffets. They used to my top on my furniture bucket list, but now have had the pleasure of bringing many home that I have tried different makeovers on: Navy Buffet Makeover, White Distressed Buffet. Furniture pieces that are versatile and can be used for many different purposes are my favorite. Like dressers, buffets can be used all over your home.
They are a lot of fun to decorate too!
This painted buffet came a long way. It is more current now and could be used in so many spaces and go with many styles.
Okay, now that you have seen what I did to the buffet I bought, you must head over to The Shabby Creek Cottage to see how Gina transformed hers. It is a beautiful makeover and I love the statement it makes in her living room!

I feel like I have entered the twilight zone lol! We just brought home a buffet today that looks exactly like yours! Too funny.
What?! That is hilarious!!!!
I don’t see any difference in the two buffets…are they different pictures? Looks like you both used the exact same color.
Are you clicking the links to take you to the other post? She painted hers a turquoise color.
Both you and Gina did a beautiful job. I love how fresh this piece looks.
Thank you!
Love this piece, and the colour, and that you have now helped me convince my husband that a reclaimed buffet is the way to go in our new bathroom. I’m thinking a gorgeous piece like this with a basin sitting on top. Now for the search!
That would be beautiful! We want to find one that will fit in our bathroom!
I love the color you chose and the fabulous job you did. Thanks for giving me an idea, because I’ve been trying to choose a color for my dinning room table and Buffett , you just helped me solved my problem.
YAY! I am so glad! Good luck on your project!
I also love buffets and dressers! Did you make the flag hanging over the buffet?
Yes. It was a piece of cloth we made a wood frame for and used our staple gun to attach it to them frame. Easy project that makes a big impact!
Thank you!
Wonderful job!
Thank you!
