This farmhouse buffet was a lot of fun to make over because it is one of my favorite pieces to transform.
Like everyone, I have a bucket list full of places I want to visit, things I want to do and people I would love to meet, but I also have a furniture bucket list.
Yep.
This list consists of furniture pieces I have seen (in magazines, stores, TV, etc.) that I want to find at a yard sale or thrift store. These pieces can’t be in perfect condition. They must need a makeover.
A buffet has been on that list for a while. A few months ago, I spotted one at a yard sale. When I got closer to it, I saw the “sold” sign and then I saw how much they paid for it. It was way out of my price range and it really didn’t need a makeover.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, I came across this one.
It was perfec, but it was not in good shape.
It had many dings,
water marks and,
the knobs didn’t fit (not to mention it was missing one).
This was the perfect buffet for me.
It needed a makeover and I was excited to get started.
To begin, I sanded the top and the decals on the cabinet doors.
I painted the rest of the buffet a creamy white.
Then, when it dried, I went over it with a light gray color.
The areas that I sanded, I stained a dark color.
Once the gray paint dried, I sanded the edges.
It made some of the white paint and the dark wood underneath show through.
And, it made me happy!
I added some rustic knobs from Hickory Hardware. They were the perfect touch to this buffet.
The stained top came out beautiful!
You can’t tell by the pictures, but this buffet is huge. It would be a great statement in a dining room or even on an entry wall.
A few more beauty shots.
The detail on this buffet is swoon-worthy.

Now, usually when you do something from your bucket list, you cross it off.
Not this time.
I hope to find another buffet to make over in a different way.
I love that about what I do. Even if I have 5 pieces that look exactly the same, I can make them over to look totally different. I never get bored and am always pushing my creativity to new heights.
Now, if it was only easier to find the pieces on my bucket list. 😉
