You all know I love a good upcycling project. Taking something that is not being used anymore and making into something functional and beautiful for the home. There is nothing better. I am joining some blog friends to share some fall projects with you today and this DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign was my latest upcyled project.
I picked up this old, wood ironing board at a thrift store while we are on vacation this summer. (We stop for fun shops and stores no matter where we are.)
Old, wood ironing boards are beautiful. I made a sign on an ironing board a few years ago (you can find that sign HERE) and when I saw the wood on this ironing board, I had to bring it home.
I didn’t know what I was going to do with the ironing board when I bought it, but when this fall project hop came up, I knew exactly what it would become.

Supplies Used To Make This DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign:
Wood ironing board or any piece of wood you have lying around
“Picket Fence” by Fusion Mineral Paint
“Enhance” from Velvet Finishes
To transform this wood ironing board into a DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign, I wanted to mix the wood with some paint.
I grabbed my Hazel & Ruby vinyl stencils in different fonts and started putting fall words and phrases on the board. I have to tell you that these stencils are great to work with. You can use them over and over again.
Once I had the words where I wanted them, I painted the entire ironing board (over the stencils) with “Picket Fence” by Fusion Mineral Paint.
I only put one coat of paint on the board because I didn’t want to cover the wood completely. I removed the stencils as soon as I had the entire board painted.
Once the paint fully dried, I sanded the ironing board.
I wiped away the dust that the sanding produced and then I used a cotton cloth and rubbed “Enhance” from Velvet Finishes all over the board.
I forgot I had this stuff and when I was thinking of a way to deepen the DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign to add more character, I thought I would give it a try. This stuff is so easy to work with. It is like a think paint. It went over the white paint beautifully and just gave it an aged look and then it deepened the color of the wood where it was showing through. I was so happy with the outcome.
This DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign could not be any cuter.
I set it up by our entry table. I thought it would be cute on the front porch too, but I haven’t weather-proofed it yet.
The sign makes a great statement in this spot.
I like it with the dumpster-save sign I made too.
I couldn’t resist a couple of copper pieces I found at the thrift store last week.
The scoop is perfect for scooping up small pumpkins.
Using an old, wood ironing board is such a fun way to add a sign to your home. You could also turn the ironing board into a message center, an office organizer or a shelf.
Hmmmm. Now, my creative wheels are really turning. I need to find another ironing board. 🙂
