These DIY mini pumpkin wreaths are easy to make. And, you can customize them to fit the style and look that fits your home this fall!
I have been really inspired lately with all the cane decor that is popping up. I am a huge fan of neutral decor that has a lot of texture. In my opinion, caning offers all of that. With this in mind and as I have been seeing a lot of different cane ideas, I have been wanting to do a project that incorporated it somehow.
Fast forward about a month and I was at a yard sale and found this in a FREE pile.
I hit the cane jackpot! If I could remove the different sections of this hanging lamp, I could have many sheets of caning to repurpose into something else. Not to mention the amazing lamp form that was under all the caning. That could be a project in itself.
After I took the vintage lamp apart, the sheets of caning sat on my table in my office for a few weeks. In order to come up with a good project, sometimes I have to sit on it for a bit. I wanted to make sure I had a good project to use it on.
I started brainstorming ideas and nothing really hit me until I started bringing out the fall decor.

Supplies Used For The DIY Mini Pumpkin Wreaths
Caning
6″ Embroidery Hoops
Green-striped Ribbon
Reindeer Moss
Hot Glue Gun
Small Craft Wood Balls
Thrifted Belt
When I started adding fall touches to our home, I knew I wanted to change the spring wreaths I made to hang on the repurposed chairs we have in our entry. As the seasons change, I like to change what is hanging on those chairs. Along with that, I started thinking about the pieces of caning I had. And, I knew, it would be very easy to make mini pumpkin wreaths with it.
Making Mini Pumpkin Wreaths
To get the project started, I picked up some 6″ embroidery hoops and a belt from the thrift store.
I had the ribbon on hand and I grabbed the reindeer moss from The Dollar Tree.
This is how I put the mini pumpkin wreaths together:
Even though the natural color of the embroidery hoops is great, I started by staining the embroidery hoops with the “walnut” gel stain from Dixie Belle Paint. I wanted to darken them and have them contrast against the color of the caning. As the stain dried, I used an unstained embroidery hoop and traced around it with a pen on the pieces of caning from the lamp. Then, I used scissors to cut around that circle I traced. BUT, I cut a little outside the trace mark because I wanted to make sure I had room to work with when I was gluing the hoop to the caning.
Cane DIY Decor – Getting The Look For Less
Once I had the embroidery hoop glued to the piece of caning I cut out, I didn’t cut the excess caning off. I waited until the glue was fully cooled down and it adhered well. As the glue cooled, I finished the top of the pumpkin wreaths. I started by cutting the thrifted belt down to the size. I wanted to have it be the “stem” of the pumpkin and also a way I could hang the wreaths once they were done. Then, I adhered the belt to the back and front (top) of the embroidery hoop with hot glue (watch the video below to see exactly how I did each step).
Next, I cut a piece of ribbon and hot glued that just off to the side of the belt “stem”. Then, I hot glued reindeer moss on the other side of the belt “stem”. To finish, I hot glued three wood balls to the base of the ribbon, belt, and moss to complete the look.
When that was all done, I used scissors and cut off any excess caning around the edge of the embroidery hoop.
I am thinking I will use a fishing line to hang the DIY mini pumpkin wreaths on the chair backs in our entry. Basically, I want to use something that you can’t see or that would take away from the final look of the wreath.
