DIY Painted Dresser In Buttercream

2 Mins read

This DIY Painted Dresser is a great example of how you can save money decorating your home by flipping furniture to get the look for less.

dresser

To a lot of people, this dresser has no potential. It is missing hardware, it is old, and the top drawer is a different color.

To me, I see so much potential.

The fact that it has a door on the top was a huge selling point for me. I love finding different pieces. Pieces that have a little something special or are a smaller size or have a fun curve on them are more likely than not, coming home with me.

To get started on this makeover, I removed all the drawers and started cleaning it. Look what was inside the bottom of the dresser!! It was an old Miller beer sign. There was also a bag of hardware inside one of the drawers, but they didn’t work for this piece but I will keep them in our stash for another project.

I did want to keep the handle on the door for sure. I knew the product I could use to make it match the rest of the hardware I would put on the dresser once it was done.

Supplies Used In This Makeover:

Dixie Belle Paint – “Buttercream” color

Krud Kutter – Gloss Off

My Favorite Paint Brush

Rub’N Buff – “European Gold” color

New Hardware

To clean the dresser, I used the Krud Kutter – Gloss OffI used this product on the DIY Painted Drum Table Makeover and loved it, so I wanted to try it on this one too. Working on projects in the dead of winter in Iowa is hard, so any product I can use that will let me get the work done inside is one I want to try. The Krud Kutter cleans the piece and it also de-glosses it so it is ready for paint. The wood on this dresser wasn’t that glossy, but the Krud Kutter cleaned it well and the dresser took the paint so well.

paint and brush

After it was cleaned, I grabbed my favorite paintbrush from Zibra Paint and a paint color I haven’t used in a long time. I don’t know why I haven’t used “Buttercream”, but after this makeover, I will be using it a lot more. It is a beautiful creamy color and just what this dresser needed.

This dresser is beautiful now!! It took a couple of coats of the paint and it was ready to go.

Hardware Is Like The Jewelry On A Furniture Piece

I added some new hardware that I found brand new at Restore and I used one of my favorite products of all time, the Rub’N Buff in “European Gold” to make the original door handle fit with the new hardware. It worked so well!

I could not be happier with the brass hardware on this color.

It really fit it well and just finished it off.

This DIY painted dresser is another good save. The workers at Restore didn’t think it would sell in the state it was in.

I will be selling this one because we don’t have a need for it right now.
