This DIY Pumpkin Lantern came together with a yard sale find, scrap wood from the garage, and some inexpensive pillar candles from Walmart.
It is fall!
I found this heavy, wire pumpkin at one of the two yard sales I went to this summer.
It was homemade by someone in her family. I was happy to bring it home and see what I could do with it.

I loved the rustic and industrial vibe the pumpkin had going on, but I wanted to make it feel a little more like fall. Giving it an aged copper look would do just that. It is the same technique I used on my DIY Aged Copper Jack-O-Lanterns. This process is the easiest DIY I have ever done and it works on any surface you put it on. If you haven’t tried it yet, you must! It is a project that you can’t screw up and it works every time.
Supplies Used To Achieve The Aged Copper Patina Look:
Paint Brushes
Spray Bottle

Once I had the copper look done and it was dry, Matt measured the inside base of the pumpkin and cut a board to fit. He used an old board we had in the garage. I stained it a dark color and let it dry.
Matt attached the board to the wire pumpkin using washers and a screw.
Then, I picked up some inexpensive pillar candles and set them on the board inside the pumpkin.
It would be great to put some LED candles inside the pumpkin, but I had envisioned the wax dripping down the candles and puddling around them on the board.
The pumpkin looks so different from when I picked it up.
I held a lighter to the sides of the candles so I could get them to drip. I love the way it looks inside the pumpkin.
The copper patina looks so good.
The board inside the pumpkin can be decorated in so many ways.
It would be cute with a cloche filled with acorns or small pumpkins.
Wouldn’t it be cute with a stack of pumpkins on it?

Okay, you get it. I won’t bore you with all the ideas. The possibilities are endless.
