This Dresser Makeover With White Paint & BOSS is a great example of what a little paint and primer can do!
I have to tell you that I am so happy that I have been able to find some great pieces to bring home during this pandemic. I didn’t know how this was going to look once things started shutting down and yard sales weren’t happening. These projects are so fun for me to do and even more fun for me to share with you, so I was a little worried about being able to find great pieces to transform. Luckily, I have done okay at finding things and finding them in different ways. I don’t have a plethora of projects waiting in the sidelines, but enough to keep me busy each week.
I found this dresser at my local Restore after it reopened.

It wasn’t in the best condition, but that is the way I like to find them because the makeovers are that much better. Many people don’t see the potential in pieces like these and then pass them by. I am so happy when they do because they are there for me to make them pretty again.
The finish on this dresser was not in great condition and one of the knobs was missing.
***TIP*** Whenever I rescue a piece that has missing hardware, I keep the remaining hardware (if I like it) for future projects. This will save so much money on your makeovers. Saving the hardware gives us a nice stash of beautiful hardware that we can use on other pieces and I am not having to go out and buy new hardware to complete a piece. SAVE ALL GREAT HARDWARE!

My Favorite Paint Brush from Zibra
Dixie Belle “BOSS”
Dixie Belle Paint – “Cotton”
This makeover started off with a good cleaning. I used a mixture of vinegar and water and a rag. Once that was dry, I removed all the hardware and pulled the drawers out. I never paint a piece of furniture with the drawers still in it. You can’t see all the nooks and crannies you need to get to when the drawers are in the piece.
After the cleaning, I used my heat gun on the bottom of the dresser where the veneer was missing and peeling a bit. I shared how easy that is to do on this Vintage Dresser Makeover In Green. The heat gun has saved me so much time on pieces like this. It is a tool like costs less than $40 and will save you so much time with projects like this. I can’t recommend it enough.
The finish on the dresser was very RED so I applied BOSS from Dixie Belle Paint to prevent any bleed-through after I painted it.
I applied the BOSS with my favorite paintbrush from Zibra Paint. Zibra paint brushes are the one DIY tool that I will never be without. They fit in your hand perfectly and they have designed different brushes to accommodate any painting you do. They are a painter’s dream.
After I put on one coat of the BOSS, I let it dry completely.
Once the BOSS dried, I painted the entire piece in three coats of “Cotton” from Dixie Belle Paint.
Once the paint was dry, I used some sandpaper and roughed up a few of the edges. There is something about a stark, white dresser that I just can’t leave alone. It will naturally get some dings here and there, so I just helped that along a little bit with some distressing of my own. 🙂
I didn’t want real heavy distressing. Just enough to see the curves and details on this one.
I added wood knobs that I took from a different project.
See! Keep that hardware! It will come in handy as you do more projects.
