This farmhouse end table makeover is a great way of taking an old table and making it beautiful and functional again.
If you read my post about the best paint for furniture, you know that I recently scored some amazing pieces from a local estate sale. I have talked about it before, but I don’t get too excited when I see estate sales pop up because I feel like they are too expensive. This particular sale was priced above what I wanted to spend on the first day, but everything was 75% off on the last day so we went back to see what was left. There was SO MUCH LEFT! All the furniture pieces I wanted to rescue on the first day were still there so I was able to get them all for a more reasonable price.
I wasn’t sure about this table on the first day, but when we went back, I took a better look at it and had to bring it home.
There is so much detail on this table. You don’t find pieces like this anymore. They just aren’t made like this. I know I would have been mad at myself if I would have left it there.
The scallop detail is my favorite part. It reminds me of the piece I rescued HERE. It was hidden by the scratches, dirt and dust, but I knew I could make the scallops pop so they would become a beautiful feature of this table again.
Although this table had amazing detail, there were some things wrong with the table that had to be fixed.
First, it was kept in a cellar basement for a long time so it needed to be scraped and cleaned pretty well.
Second, the top of the table was split, but it was a clean split so I knew Matt could fix it easily. Overall, it looked like a sad table when I picked it up, but I saw the potential it had and the price tag was great at 75% off. I added it to my HUGE pile I was buying at the estate sale and it came home with me.
Like I have said before, I share progress photos and videos of all my projects in my Instagram stories. If you aren’t following along with me there, make sure to head HERE and hit follow. Thank you!

Supplies Used In This Farmhouse End Table DIY:
“Drop Cloth” Dixie Belle Paint
Zibra Paint Brushes
Sandpaper
As soon as I got this table cleaned, I knew that I wanted to paint it a lighter color because that would bring out the details. The “Drop Cloth” color from Dixie Belle Paint is my favorite creamy white color and it made this table beautiful. To put the paint on the table, I used one of my favorite paint brushes from Zibra Paint. Their square brush is amazing for smaller edges and pieces with small sides like this table. I am able to control the brush easily and the angle of the brush makes paint coverage a breeze. I am not wasting time adding more coats of paint because it didn’t cover.
My DIY journey started with cheap paint brushes that never worked and I always walked away from each project frustrated because I had wasted so much time to finish it. There is something to be said about quality products and if you do any painting at all, Zibra has the paint brush you need. You won’t waste time. You won’t be frustrated. The brushes work amazing every time and they apply paint like butter. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I have discovered them and I will keep sharing them until everyone has one in their paint supplies.
After the paint dried, I couldn’t resist a little distressing with sand paper. I used a hand sanding block to distress the edges. It worked like a charm.
Look at that cute scallop! It stands out proud now.
Decorating a table like this is a lot of fun. You don’t need a lot of stuff on it because you don’t want to take away from all of the beautiful detail that you can now admire. This table is a lot bigger than a traditional end table so it was the perfect size to hold my new vintage typewriter. I found it at a thrift store. The green color is perfection!!!
The bottom shelf is another area to decorate. Who doesn’t love a piece of furniture that gives you ample opportunities to decorate?!
The farmhouse end table is so pretty in our living room. I need something with more storage for games and things we keep in this room. The green cabinet we usually have in this space will go back here. The table is going to be in someone’s new business space. Making over furniture and having someone else fall in love with it is one of my favorite parts of rescuing pieces.
This farmhouse end table has come a long way from the basement I rescued it from. Now, it will live on in a new place with a new look. Another piece saved from the landfill, brought back to life and ready for its new life. I love this job.

cute table! How did you end up fixing that big crack on the top?
Matt put a small piece of wood on the underside and used some clamps to pull it together.
