Today, I am going to share the furniture flipping process from prep to paint.
Flipping furniture was something I did out of necessity when Matt and I bought our first home. I wanted to decorate our home as I had seen on TV and in my favorite magazines, but our budget was not going to allow me to do that. I needed to figure out a way to get the look I wanted without spending a lot of money.
Flipping furniture was one of the first ways I was able to do that. I would find amazing, all-wood pieces and transform them into the look and style I wanted! The best part was that our home was looking amazing and I was keeping money in the bank. It was a win-win.
Then, I started selling some pieces to family and friends and I was hooked. I knew I was on to something and I wanted to see where it would take me. Fast forward many years and here I am today. I have built this business from the furniture flipping side hustle and haven’t looked back.
Flipping furniture is a creative outlet that can make you money!
Flipping furniture doesn’t have to be difficult. It is something anyone can do. Our son just flipped his first piece this summer because he wanted some extra money. It is great for college kids, SAHM’s, retired people, people who work out of the home…. really, anyone can do this. This is something that will never go out of style, it isn’t a fad that will fade away, it is something you can work on in your own time, at your own pace, and in your own style. It really is that flexible. And yes, it can be very profitable!
Okay, I kind of went off on a tangent there. Sorry about that. Can you tell I am passionate about it? HAHA
Let’s get back to this makeover I came here to talk about today.
I found this piece at my local Goodwill store. It caught my eye because it was a smaller piece and had a lot of storage. Those are always pieces I will pick up.
This piece has so much going for it. It is a smaller piece, it has so much storage, all the original hardware, and the drawers were in perfect condition!!
It was too good to pass up and I knew a little makeover would make it that much better.
This piece was an easy flip!
I went live on my Instagram page and shared the entire furniture flipping process with this piece, from prep to paint. I have uploaded those videos to my YouTube channel and I am going to put the links to those videos here in this post so you can see the process as it is happening.
This is how I prepped the piece for paint:

After the paint dried, I added a couple of coats of clear, matte topcoat.
Supplies Used In This Makeover:
The piece could not have turned out better. This Wise Owl paint color is one of my favorites. It is just beautiful. I wanted to reuse the original hardware just like it was because I knew it would look so great with this paint color.
The hardware really makes a statement now.
I sold this piece in less than a day.
Sell Flipped Pieces For Money
Not only do love having the creative outlet in the furniture makeovers, but it always makes me so happy to see other people take these pieces home. I love bringing out the potential in a piece of furniture, getting to be creative in the process, and selling them in the end. Sometimes, I fall in love with the piece after the makeover and I have to sell something we have to make room for the new piece.
One of my favorite things about flipping furniture is that I am able to share my 20+ years of experience with others. I am able to help them get more $$$ by teaching them the tips and tricks of the trade, teaching them how to sell their pieces fast, and showing them how to get cheap, mostly FREE pieces to help keep their costs low! I also get to work with other furniture flippers on a daily basis. In addition to sharing information, we also share techniques and tips. And, we talk about our passion, and share inspirational stories about how this trade has changed our lives in so many ways! It has become this community where everyone is so supportive and the knowledge and creativity that is shared is just incredible.
