One of the most asked questions I get is, “How do you find garage sales?” I have been shopping garage sales since I was little and my mom would drag us along on all of her hunting adventures. I didn’t appreciate it back then, but once we bought our very first house, I have become the garage sale queen. Since I get that question often, I thought I would write a blog post all about my garage sale finder tips.
Garage Sale Finder: How To Find The Best Garage Sales
Newspaper:
The easiest way to find garage sales is to look in your local newspaper. We don’t get the newspaper delivered to us until it is garage sale season. It is cheaper in our area to have it delivered than going to the store to buy it every day. When it is delivered, you can plan ahead the night before too. You can plan your route and how many sales you will go to.
Garage Sale Apps:
There are many garage sale apps available now. Just head to the app store on your phone and search around for a couple that you like.
Facebook Marketplace:
A lot of people will advertise for their garage sales on Facebook. Check around your area and see if there are any garage sale groups you can join or frequent Facebook Marketplace around you to find great garage sales.
Local Towns:
Our favorite garage sales are usually the small town garage sales. You can hit a ton of sales in one day by traveling to smaller towns around you. The best way to find out about these is to check the town’s website. A lot of times the library for the smaller towns will have all the information. It just takes some research, but once you know when they are, they usually host them the same time every year.
Craigslist:
Craigslist is another great place to find garage sales.
Word Of Mouth:
If I find a great garage sale that I would want to shop at all the time, I will give the person running it my email or phone number so they can contact me the next time they are having a garage sale. There are a lot of garage sales that aren’t even worth going to so if I find a great one, I want to make sure I know when they will have another one and I will make it a priority to go.
Word Of Mouth:
Tell your family and friends you want to start going to garage sales. Just by talking about it with everyone you know, they will start telling you if they are having a garage sale or if they find a great sale that they know you will love.
I hope this garage sale finder post has encouraged you to start hunting for amazing treasures in your area. There are a lot of times that I will only find one good garage sale out of ten I go too so don’t get discouraged if you aren’t finding things. Be persistent and keep going. If you still don’t feel like you are having any luck, start thinking outside of the box when you are shopping. What can you repurpose to get what you need?
You can always paint pieces, reupholster furniture or upcycle things that aren’t exactly what you are looking for.
