Hanging doors in the flip house was an easy and inexpensive solution to hide the mechanicals while still leaving them accessible if needed.
This is another post that I am excited to share because we found the best solution for a problem we had in the flip house and I can finally share it!
I need to start off by apologizing for the photos. It is a dark basement and we didn’t have working lights in part of the room when I took these photos. Onward and upward! There is still a great DIY and solution to share – even if the photos aren’t perfect. (Who has time for perfection anyway?) 😉
When we bought the flip house, I told Matt that I needed to come up with a solution to hide the mechanicals in the basement. If all of the this was in the back room in the basement, I would not have cared, but it is in the room that we will be carpeting and a room that the new home owners could use a family room, game room, movie room, play room or something else.
I was up for the challenge and knew we would come up with a good idea. It would just take some thinking and time. I would know it when I saw it.
I saw it last week. We were at Restore and I saw a set of four, white doors that were so cute! (There are only three in the photo below).
They were smaller doors, so I asked Matt if we put them together, would they work to hide the mechanicals. THEY WERE THE RIGHT SIZE AND…. they were only $4 each!!!
We figured out the easiest way to hang the doors to still make the mechanicals accessible and/or to remove the doors if needed.

Supplies We Used For Hanging Doors:
Ceiling Hooks
“S” Hooks
To hang the doors, Matt pre-drilled holes in the top of each door to screw in two ceiling hooks in each door.
He measured the four doors together and we decided how far apart they should hang. Then, he pre-drilled holes in the rafters to add ceiling hooks there.
Then, he added the “S” hooks to the hooks in the ceiling and hung the hooks on the doors in the “S” hooks.
We cleaned the doors and viola! The mechanicals were covered, but still accessible.
Mission accomplished.
The hanging doors were an easy solution to a “not-so-pretty” problem. I like having challenges like this in the flip houses we do because coming up with a creative solution, that isn’t going to cost a lot of money, is something I am passionate about.
I can’t wait to get the carpet in this space and finish the basement next week!
The flip is almost done and I am so proud of everything we have done to this place.
Stay tuned for the final reveal and more tips, solutions and makeover ideas ahead!
