How To Decorate For Christmas With Thrift Store Finds

3 Mins read

Today, I am sharing how to decorate for Christmas with thrift store finds.

If you have been here for any time, you know how passionate I am about finding ways to create a beautiful home without breaking the bank. It is something I have done since we moved into our first home.

You can decorate your home all year round from thrift store finds and it is just as easy around the holidays.

I am sharing how to decorate for Christmas with thrift store finds. This way of decorating ensures you get the look you want for a lot less.

5 Tips For Shopping Thrift Stores For Christmas Decor:

  • The first rule you must abide by when shopping for Christmas decor at thrift stores is to keep your eye open all year round. Don’t just look for it during the holiday season. That is when everyone is looking for it and a lot of times, it is picked over. I find the best Christmas and holiday decor throughout the rest of the year.
  • Be on the lookout for garlands and wreaths at thrift stores. They can very expensive at other retail stores so when I find a good one at a thrift store, I grab it! Even if the garland or wreath has items on it that I don’t love, I grab it. I only look at the greenery part. If they look more real and more “expensive”, I buy it. I can always remove items from the greenery and embellish them with whatever I want to make it fit the style I am looking for.
  • Look for old bells in thrift stores. You can find them on wind chimes, homemade decor, in bags of items. etc. I have bought many pieces only for the bells that were on it. I take the bells off the piece and get rid of the rest. Then, I use the bells in my Christmas decorating. Old bells are great for making garlands, putting in cloches, and hanging from the Christmas tree.
  • Christmas decor comes in all styles and that’s what makes hunting for it in thrift stores so much fun. You will see all kinds of decor and will know when you find that piece that will fit your style perfectly. Have fun in the hunt! Keep your holiday decor style in mind when you browse the shelves. What can you use or make over to fit that style? Keep an open mind.
  • Go often. Thrift stores need to move Christmas decor fast. It is seasonal so they are bringing new stuff out all the time. Go as often as you can.
  • Keep your budget in mind. You can overspend at a thrift store just like you can in any other store. It’s good to know your budget before stepping inside the store. Then, when you are deciding on things, that number will make the choices very easy. Only buy the things you truly love.

I love adding thrifty finds to my Christmas decor.

I have a few items that I bought at Target and/or Hobby Lobby, but my favorite things are the things I have found while hunting at a thrift store, estate sale, or yard sale.

Finding real brass candlesticks or old brass bells is like hitting the jackpot. They add so much charm and character to the Christmas decor and it is something you can’t get in the replicated items in other stores.
