Even though we still have temps in the high 80’s, I am moving forward with making our home feel like fall. Most of the spaces I usually decorate are done, but I still had the DIY Spring Eucalyptus Wreath I made last season on the front door. The front door is the first space that everyone sees and it was time to deck it out to welcome my favorite season. This tutorial is going to show you how to make a fall wreath with thrifted finds.

What To Look For At Thrift Stores For A Fall Wreath:
When you are shopping thrift stores for items to make a fall wreath, keep your eyes peeled for things you can repurpose. For this wreath, I used a 23″ Embroidery Hoop that I found a thrift store. An embroidery hoop is the perfect shape to make a wreath. It comes in all sizes, they are made of wood so I can stain or paint them, and you get two forms with each hoop, so you get double wreath forms for the price of one. My favorite thing about make wreaths with embroidery hoops is that you can just add things to the bottom half and it looks great. That means less supplies are needed to create a beautiful wreath.
I also look for faux floral stems at thrift stores. Floral stems, swags, etc. are expensive in stores, so finding things that will work in thrift stores saves so much money. This is where you need to get creative and keep your mind open. You will usually find a section in a thrift store that has all the floral stems in it, but don’t just look there. Look at wreaths, vases and other decorations that have faux stems on them or in them. I have bought the ugliest wreaths and vases at thrift stores because I wanted some of the pieces from the wreath or inside the vase. When I get them home, I take them apart and use the pieces I liked to create my own wreath.
For this fall wreath, I found the best fall swag that had some great pieces in it. I took the entire thing apart and added the pieces one by one to the embroidery hoop. I also found a group of wood flowers that were a great color for fall and perfect for this wreath.
*Extra Tip: Search for things at thrift stores all year round. Buy it when you see it. This goes for anything you find at a thrift store, but for the tutorial today, if you find great stems and things you can use on wreaths, pick them up. If you are in the middle of winter and you find great spring pieces you could add to a wreath, buy them. It took me a few times at the thrift stores to find the pieces for this wreath because I didn’t have anything stocked up. I always search for items like this when I am in a thrift store to keep on hand for when a new season rolls around. Saves me so much time and money.
Other Stores To Find Inexpensive Supplies For A Fall Wreath:
A lot of people tell me they don’t have thrift stores in their area or the thrift stores never have “good stuff”. I would be lost if that was the case for me, but to be honest, there are so many times I head into a thrift store and walk out empty handed. I do not find things every time I am in a thrift store. Some days it is great and other days it is not.
There are other places you can shop to find inexpensive supplies to create a fall wreath. This year, I found a cute, wood pumpkin garland in the Target Bullseye Playground. I took the garland apart and stained and painted the pumpkins. They were the perfect addition to my fall wreath. I also found the eucalyptus stems at Target last year. I had them on the spring wreath, but love them for fall too so I left them on there. The sign in the middle of the wreath was a $3 find from the Bullseye Playground. I would highly recommend checking out Bullseye Playground at Target for inexpensive supplies to create a fall wreath.
Dollar Tree is another great place for things you can add to a fall wreath. It is hit and miss with the selection, but I have had good luck there in the past.
Craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Joanns are obvious good places for wreath-making supplies. They usually have coupons that will bring the cost down.
What Supplies Do You Need To Make A Fall Wreath?
This is the supply list I used for this fall wreath:
23″ Embroidery Hoop
Dark Walnut Stain
“Collard Green” Paint
“Fluff” Paint
Floral Wire
Wood Pumpkins
Fall Stems
You can also use a hot glue gun to add things to the wreath. I like to be able to reuse the stems and things I add to wreaths because I change my mind all the time so the floral wire holds the pieces in place, but still keeps everything in tact when I change my mind and want to take it all apart next year. 🙂

How Much Did The Wreath Cost To Make?
The grand total of this wreath was $9.76.
Making a wreath for fall can be as simple and inexpensive as you want it to be. I bought the embroidery hoop last year and keep reusing it. The fall swag was $2.88. The three wood flowers were $.88. The pumpkin garland and fall sign were $6 total, and I bought the eucalyptus stems last year. For under $10, I think the wreath turned out really cute. Shopping thrift stores for items to make a wreath makes the process a lot of fun for me. I never know what I am going to find and it makes me get creative and think outside of the box to come up with great ideas.
I hope this easy tutorial inspires you to create something fun for your front door (or wherever you hang wreaths in your home). It doesn’t have to cost a lot or take a lot of time to look pretty. You can have exactly what you want and decorate your home beautifully on a dime! It just takes a little creativity and some elbow grease.
