This How To Paint And Distress A Wood Table tutorial will show you how to get the look of an old, chippy piece in a few easy steps.
I get a lot of questions about making over furniture so I want to start recording the makeovers so you can see the entire process from start to finish. I will put some of them here on the blog, but make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE for the other video tutorials that won’t show you here.
Painting and distressing a wood table is pretty easy and I am excited to share the process with you today.

Supplies Used In This Makeover:
All of the furniture projects I share have to start out with the story behind where I found the piece. This table was in a thrift store that I never buy furniture from because they price things so high. When I saw this table in the corner, I didn’t even rush over to it. I looked around at other things and when I got to the table and saw the $25 price tag, I still wasn’t excited. If it was only $25, something had to be wrong with it. I started looking at it closer to find out what was wrong. I found NOTHING! It even had all four of the original casters on the legs! The excitement settled in and I couldn’t get it into my cart fast enough.
Structurally, the table was great. But, the finish on the table was not good. There were some water stains and some areas where the top coat was completely off. All of those “problems” were not problems for me because I knew I would paint the table.
My favorite thing about this table is all the detail. Detail that needed to be brought out and showcased. I couldn’t wait to get it home and get started.
This table had so much detail so it was the perfect piece to share how to paint and distress a wood table. This video will walk you through exactly what I did to this table. Find the full video on my YouTube channel HERE.
Does it seem easier after seeing the video? I would love to know. I want to create these videos to inspire you to try projects like this one. If there is something I didn’t answer or didn’t show, please leave me a comment so I can answer it and make sure to add that to upcoming videos.
I think this table looks so much better painted white and distressed.
You can appreciate the details and all the angles so much better.
This table would have been pretty a solid color as well. You can customize and create any look you want with most wood furniture. That is what I love about it. I love old, wood pieces and making them look weathered and worn adds a lot of character that I am drawn to.
Dixie Belle Paint makes these kinds of makeovers easy because you don’t have to do a lot of prep and you don’t have to add a top coat if you don’t want to. Good paint is essential for these kinds of makeovers, but you need the right tool to spread the paint. I can’t recommend Zibra brushes enough. If you are looking to start painting furniture, invest in a Zibra brush and pick out some paint colors from Dixie Belle Paint and you will be set for a beautiful makeover.
Now, I have to get busy making over the next piece I brought home. Stay tuned for that one coming to the blog soon!
