I found this dresser at my local thrift store along with three others!! Yep, you heard that right. I found four dressers in one thrift store at the same time. They were all priced well and they were all great candidates for a makeover. This never happens so I am still talking about it. It is like winning the lottery when you find four pieces of furniture worth picking up at one store. This dresser was the perfect piece to use a new product that I am quickly falling in love with. I am going to show you how to prime, paint, and topcoat with one product. It is a game-changer when flipping furniture.

Supplies Used For This Makeover
Silk All In One Paint – “Black Sands”
My Favorite Paint Brush – Palm Pro
Plastic Putty Knife – I love this size so much!
My Favorite Sander For Furniture Pieces (use “mycreativedays10” to save on your order)
This dresser was in good condition and it had the original hardware! It is always a good thing when a piece of furniture has all the original hardware.
The dresser was in good condition but it did need a lot of MUD to fill in some missing veneer and some other areas to smooth out the surface and make it flush before painting it.
I shared how to fix veneer with MUD in my blog post HERE.
Once the MUD was fully dry, it was time for a scuff-sand.
Ever since I got THIS SANDER, it is the only one I grab when I am working on furniture pieces. (I put my coupon code for this sander in the supply list above).
A scuff-sand is a good thing to do when flipping furniture. You aren’t sanding down to bare wood. You just want to rough up the surface so the primer and paint stick well. The scuff-sand will help smooth out the wood as well.
When the scuff-sand was done, I used a damp cloth and wiped away any sanding dust left on the dresser. Now, it was time to prime, paint, and topcoat with one product. Yep! ONLY ONE PRODUCT TO DO ALL THREE!
Dixie Belle Paint released an all-in-one mineral paint and I LOVE it. It makes my furniture projects done in no time! I can get the priming, painting, and topcoat done in one application. ONE!
The color I chose for this dresser was “Black Sands”.
This color is so gorgeous! As it goes on, it looks more like a charcoal gray. But, as it dries, it turns into a beautiful slate black color.
The original hardware pops beautifully against this color.
After two coats, this dresser was done!
That was it!
Not two coats of primer, two coats of paint, and two coats of topcoat. NOPE! Just two coats of Silk paint that has the primer, paint, and topcoat in it.
I love sharing tips and techniques that make projects easier. When I discovered how to prime, paint, and topcoat with one product, I couldn’t wait to share it!
