Shopping at yard sales can be a great way to save money and find unique items. It is one of my favorite ways to shop for home decor. You can save so much money decorating your home with yard sale finds. I have found some of my favorite decor pieces from yard sales. The thrill of the hunt keeps me going back and the money I save is the cherry on top. I have been shopping at yard sales since I was little with my mom. She took us to yard sales all the time and taught me a lot about how to do it right. Since having my own home, I have continued shopping yard sales and have learned even more about how to shop yard sales effectively to get the best haul every time.

- Plan ahead: Before you head out to any yard sales, make a list of the items you are looking for. This will help you stay focused and avoid getting distracted by items that you don’t really need. It is also a good idea to plan your route ahead of time. If possible try and make the route in a continuous pattern so you aren’t wasting time and gas having to repeat your route to get to sales.
- Be an early bird: The best items at yard sales go quickly, so it’s a good idea to arrive early. If you’re looking for something specific, it’s especially important to get there before other shoppers. Some sales are strict about not letting anyone into the sale until the start time while others will let you shop as they are still setting up. Either way, you want to be one of the first shoppers to browse for the best items.

- Bring cash: Most yard sales only accept cash, so it’s a good idea to bring plenty of small bills and change. This will make it easier to negotiate prices as well. Venmo and Paypal are other methods that are starting to show up in yard sales as well.
- Negotiate: Don’t be afraid to negotiate the price of an item. Most sellers at yard sales expect to haggle, so be polite but firm in your negotiations. They want to get rid of their stuff so don’t be shy about negotiating prices – especially when you are buying multiple items.
- Check for damage: Before buying any item, make sure to inspect it carefully for damage or defects. It’s also a good idea to test electronic items to make sure they work.
