I found this dresser at my local Salvation Army store. It was in good condition. I left it this way for some time and it was in our bedroom. Then, I did another makeover that looked like a Pottery Barn dresser dupe and fell in love with that and decided to swap this one for that.
When I thought about this makeover, I saw this piece in a rich color with a masculine vibe. I ran with that vision.

Step-by-Step Masculine Dresser Makeover Tutorial
Step 1: Clean The Dresser
ALWAYS clean your pieces before any makeover. Take the drawers out and vacuum the inside. Clean the drawers’ inside and clean outside the piece (where most of the makeover will take place) very well. I shared how to clean a piece of furniture before painting in my blog post HERE.
Step 2: Scuff-Sand the Dresser
Begin by removing any existing hardware. Use medium-grit sandpaper to sand down the dresser, removing any old paint or finish. Switch to fine-grit sandpaper for a smooth surface. Wipe the dresser clean with a damp cloth to remove dust.
Step 3: Apply Primer
Applying primer is essential for a smooth and durable finish. Use a paintbrush or foam roller to apply an even coat of primer. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 4: Paint the Dresser
Choose a rich, dark paint to achieve the desired masculine look. Apply the paint in thin, even coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. You may need two to three coats to achieve the desired depth of color.
Step 5: Stain the Drawer Fronts
Stain the drawer fronts a rich color. Apply the stain with an applicator pad for even coverage.
Step 6: Apply Salve Inside Drawers
If the wood inside the drawers needs some love, apply a salve.
Step 7: Seal the Finish
Once the paint or stain is completely dry, apply a matte finish sealer to protect the surface and give it a polished look. This step is crucial for durability and maintaining the dresser’s sleek appearance.
Step 8: Add New Hardware (optional)
Select new hardware that complements the masculine aesthetic, such as metal or leather handles. Attach the new hardware to the dresser to complete the makeover.
