Furniture makeovers are some of my favorite projects and every time I finish a piece, I get excited to share it here with you. This white dresser makeover is my latest project. About a month ago, my dad called me and told me he thought I should stop by a yard sale he was at. Usually when my dad calls me and says that, I know that he thinks he found something I might want, but he is not sure enough to just buy it. I went right over to the sale.
This is the piece he wasn’t sure about.
It had potential, but it also had its flaws.
Two of the drawers had most of the veneer coming off and there were many dings all over the dresser. I really looked this piece over and pondered whether it was worth it or not. Then, the owner told how motivated he was to sell everything because he was moving.
$12 later, we had the dresser in the back of my van.
One of my favorite things about this dresser was that it still had all four of its original, wood casters in tact! Most of the time, at least one of them is missing.
So, like I said, this dresser did have a lot of potential and when he gave me the $12 price tag, I couldn’t resist.
The first thing I did was removed the veneer layers that were coming off the two drawers. Then, I painted the entire dresser in a creamy white. I thought a white dresser would really make this piece pretty again and showcase all of the details it had.
I distressed it a little around the edges to bring out the details.
For the knobs, I chose the Retro Whitewashed Metal Clock knobs from Charleston Knob Company. They are very close to the paint color on the dresser, but I really thought their design fit the dresser.

The knobs finished this dresser perfectly. I really like the monochromatic’ness’ it has. (Yep, that is a design technical term I just made up.)
This white dresser makeover was something new for me. I usually want to have the knobs and hardware stand out on furniture pieces, but this time, I am really glad I went with something that blended with the paint color.
We all have old, ugly furniture pieces around our home that could be made into stunning pieces. I hope that some of these makeovers inspire you to look at your things in a new way and bring them back to life for your home.
