This Painted Black Buffet Makeover really made this thrift store buffet more regal and stunning with the combination of black paint and brass.
If you have been following My Creative Days for some time, you know that buffets are one of my favorite pieces of furniture to flip. I JUST LOVE THEM! Buffets and hutches are the two pieces of furniture I will always pick up. They are hard to come by where I live so when one pops up, I grab it as fast as I can.
This is the buffet I found last week.
This buffet has so many details and the legs are amazing! They are tall and slender. They give this piece a sleek look but the color of the finish is not doing this piece justice at all.
I did have a few holes and dings to fill but other than that, it was ready for a makeover.

Steps In This Makeover
The first thing I did was give this piece a good cleaning and remove the hardware.
Then, I used my favorite wood filler in a few holes and dings it had.
Once the filler dried, I sanded all the filled areas down so it was flush, and then I gave the entire piece a good scuff-sand with my favorite sander.
Next, I wiped away dust from the sanding with a damp cloth.
Once it was completely dry, it was time to prime and paint.
I tried a new color on this buffet. It took two coats of paint.
Once the paint was dry, I added a topcoat and applied salve to the inside of the drawers and inside the two cabinets on the sides.
I finished by putting the original hardware back on. It is the best when you find a piece that has all the original hardware still intact.
This makeover was pretty cut and dry. There weren’t any hiccups or repairs that were needed. It was just your regular prime, paint, and topcoat makeover.
I welcome the easier projects whenever they come around.
Isn’t it amazing what paint can do?
All of the details really pop now and the dark color made this piece look regal. The legs stand out more. It really is a statement piece now.
I love buffets so much because they are so versatile. This one is large and is really going to command some attention in its new home.
I just love this look. The dark color with the brass hardware really makes it feel elegant and sophisticated.
Sadly, we don’t have room for this beauty in our home so I will be selling it. I am always excited to see these pieces go to their new homes when they won’t work in ours.

Beautiful. I’ve never worked with this type of paint you used before. I want to paint a larger dresser – how would I know what size/how much paint to order?
This paint gives great coverage. If you use their Silk line of paint, it has the primer, paint, and topcoat in one can. It is amazing. If I have a large piece of furniture, I go with the 32oz. can. It will not go to waste. You can use it on many projects, but they will ensure you have enough paint.
