When fall started, I posted a question on my Facebook page asking who falls for the pumpkin craze (pun intended). Since pumpkin foods and drinks are so popular during the fall and winter, I wanted to know who actually loved them and looked forward to them. I thought I was going to be the only one who doesn’t drink pumpkin lattes or like pumpkin pie, but I wasn’t. A lot of people said they don’t like the drinks, but they do love other pumpkin things. I have to agree with them. Even though pumpkin lattes and pumpkin pie are not my thing, there is one pumpkin thing that I LOVE.
Pumpkin bread.
During the holiday season, I have been known to make multiple batches of this bread. I make it when we entertain, I make it to give away and I make it to have at home to enjoy.
When we entertain, I will double the batch (depending on the size of the crowd). That way, I have enough to serve while the guests are here and then I have plenty to send home with them when they leave. Who doesn’t love to take home pumpkin bread for breakfast the next morning or for a midnight snack that night?
Okay, let’s be honest…. to eat on the way home from the party. 😉
The Best Pumpkin Bread
- 3 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 c. oil
- 2/3 c. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 16 oz. can of pumpkin
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. cinnamon (you can add a tsp. of nutmeg in as well)
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- Mix all the ingredients together well.
- Pour into three greased and floured bread pans until half full.
- Bake at 350° for 45-60 minutes (until a skewer inserted in center comes out clean).
I have used this recipe for mini-loaves and muffins too. I have also added a cup of chocolate chips to the batter, my kids love it that way! There is a bonus to making pumpkin bread too- It makes your home smell AMAZING!
I always have Rubbermaid TakeAlongs products on hand when we are entertaining. The main reason is that I know I will have tons of food left over (I always make way too much food because I worry there won’t be enough) and I know we can’t eat it all. Rubbermaid TakeAlongs make it super easy to send food home with our guests. They feature Quik Clik Seal™ technology which keeps food secure and helps prevent spills in transport. My guests thank me for that when they get home without any food spills in their car. 🙂
They have soft, flexible, lids that grip the container tightly for a great seal (no stale pumpkin bread here), while featuring an easy to grab and open pull tab. The best part…….. they are microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe! WHAT!!!
You can easily find the Rubbermaid TakeAlongs at your local Walmart.

I’m not a big pumpkin fan, but I love pumpkin bread for some reason- maybe it’s the different texture? I’ll have to try your recipe, thanks for sharing! #client
Not sure how health with 3 cups of sugar
Never said it was healthy, but it is really good!!!
Would using 3/4 c. of unsweetened applesauce in place of all the oil be ok or will that change the taste?
Judy, I have done that many times to cut back on some of the calories and fat. It still tastes great!
Thanks, Lindsay.
I would not use all white sugar….Maybe 1/2 white sugar & 1/2 brown sugar.. And maybe some a few raisins, and nuts for sure…And will make muffins in place of loaves…Maybe some type of topping like a crumb topping/other..
Great ideas!
Great ideas
Just put it in the oven ,hope ii comes as good as it sounds thanks
It is so good! We love pumpkin bread! Enjoy!
I bake pumpkin bread in the large pumpkin cans so it is round. Just a different look. My family thinks that is the only way pumpkin bread comes
WOW! That is a great idea! I love that! Thank you so much for sharing.
How would you be able to use fresh pumpkin. Would you have to cook it first to thicken. Fresh pumpkin has a tendency to be liqufied. I do not use canned pumpkin. My pumpkin is fresh frozen straight from pumpkins. Should i cook it some first.
I have never used fresh pumpkin before so I am not sure. I would think you would have to cook it first and get it to the consistency of the canned pumpkin for it to come out right. I would love to know if you try and and come back and share with us your results!
I cut the recipe in half and got 1 and a half pans It is good and easy Tried 3x making in my Cusinart bread maker following exactly their recipe and it failed 3x Not cooked in middle outside was burned ???
I’m sticking to this one for sure Quick and less time in the oven
