Mixing styles is a lot of fun. I think it gives a room, a home and/or a piece of furniture more charm and character. This Small Chest Of Drawers Makeover combined the shabby look of farmhouse pieces with rustic touches to make it an original piece.
I picked it up at a yard sale a few months ago.
Still to this day, when I am approaching a yard sale and see an amazing piece from the street, I can’t get out of the van fast enough to check it out. This was one of those pieces.
It is beautiful!
The shape, the size and the storage are spot-on and the original wood wheels make me so happy. 🙂
The top did not make me so happy.
It was gone beyond repair. I tried to sand it down, but the water marks were not budging.
That’s okay.
It was nothing a little white paint couldn’t fix.
After I decided on the paint color, the plan for this makeover came together.
I really wanted a lot of the wood to show on this piece so I gave it a thin coat of white paint and then, I sanded it all down.
Once the paint was done, I thought it would be great to add a rustic touch with the handles. The hardware that was on the chest was not original or cute.
I chose the 3 In. Oxford Antique Windover Antique Cup Cabinet Pulls from Hickory Hardware to put on this chest.
They are exactly what this Small Chest Of Drawers Makeover needed!
I am crushing over the shabby white paint finish with the rustic vibe of the knobs!!
Two yummy looks coming together to make a unique piece.
Like I have said before, staging is a lot of fun. I bought the number “4” card at a yard sale years ago with six letter cards that spelled our last name. Every time I see them, I kick myself for not buying every one they had. They were super cheap and I have found different ways I could have used them. Do you do that? Get mad about something you didn’t pick up at a yard sale? It used to happen to me all the time, but now I am a little better about picking up whatever catches my eye. This one still haunts me.

I really think the white paint brings out so much more of the detail on this small chest of drawers. It would be perfect as an entertainment center or at the end of a bed. Where would you use it?
My neighbor’s sister put this piece in her bedroom along with the Faux Weathered Dresser I did. She emailed me later and said she was so happy because her room is a lot more “homey” now.
Mission accomplished. 🙂
