Since 2020 has been such a doozy, I really wanted simple Christmas decor in our home this year.
I don’t know about you, but I am exhausted from this year. It has taken it all out of me. When November rolled around, I started thinking about decorating the house for Christmas and was really pulled to keeping it simple.
Some of my decor tastes are changing and more and more “stuff” is not where I am at right now. I thrive with less. I get overwhelmed when there is too much stuff around and am constantly finding excuses to organize and purge even more.
So, this year, I am keeping it simple. 2020 has taken a lot from us, but it is not going to take the joy of the holidays away from us. My family is used to me decorating early and they are also used to me changing things up every year.
This year is no different. I decorated early and I put up the decor that we love the most with some new additions here and there.
Welcome! Let me show you around!
This mantel greets you as soon as you walk into our front door. Last year, it was a different color. See what it looked like HERE. This year, I was craving something different and something more simple. I decided to paint the $3 mantel a new color and I LOVE IT! You can find this color HERE.
Just changing the color of the mantel made me more excited to decorate for the holidays.
These repurposed chairs also greet you when you come in our front door. I wanted to hang some small wreaths on them and found some great options at Target. They needed to be made over to fit the style I was going for. I did that live on my Facebook page HERE.
Add Simple Touches To Welcome The Christmas Season
I love old brass candlesticks and natural-looking greenery. Pinecones are simple and can be used all winter long.
I found this wood chair at a thrift store. It is the same size as my green one that is usually here. It is a little wonky, but not wobbly. Full of character. I love it so much and the natural wood color is perfect for this space.
You know I love an old, wood box and changing them up for seasons and holidays is easy.
Keeping it simple this year meant that I wanted to use what was already in our home and just add winter/seasonal decor to it. A small wreath, pinecones, a wood bead garland, and some antique bells was all this little chair and box needed.
Add Greenery, Pinecones, And Dried Oranges To Decor You Have Out All Year
I have this tray out most of the year. I added some greenery, pinecones, dried orange slices, a 60-hour candle, twinkle lights, and my DIY Mercury Glass Ornaments to it.
My vintage Santa mugs made another appearance this year. I put them inside the cabinet in our dining room. They make me so happy every year I get them out.
I found this vintage, flat scale at a thrift store. It is a perfect riser for shelves and helped hold some of these Santa’s in the cabinet.
The family room in the lower level has simple Christmas decor as well.
My favorite green, wood bead garland makes my wood bowl look more festive.
A small sign and a tree from Target add a simple touch to this end of the bookshelf.
The wicker bowl that holds remotes and anything else we throw in there, was the perfect spot to drape some felt wool garlands.
The buffet in this room looks like a woodland escape.
The back porch is plaid, woodsy, and very simple.
I found this lantern at a thrift store. It is beautiful!! I have some old bells inside it right now, but I may be changing that up.
A thrifted wood plate filled with pinecones was a simple addition to the side table on the porch.
Thank you for stopping by our home to see the simple Christmas decor. This holiday season will have a lot less company so I am so glad I could invite you in this way. Make sure to follow along on Instagram to see more from our simple holiday home!

I love all of these decorations, especially the greenery! When my kids were younger they always wanted to put up our old, tacky Christmas decorations. Now that most of them are moved out of the house, I can decorate minimally! I’m not used to the simplicity of this decor, but I think it will make decorating a less overwhelming task. My favorite part of decorating during the holiday season is getting my upholstery cleaned, fluffing up the holiday pillows on the couch, and taking a nap after all of the decorating is complete!!
Sounds like the perfect decorating day!!!
