I am excited to be sharing this makeover today. We have lived in our home for over 22 years now and have made over every room multiple times. Last year, we started the hunt for a new home with no success. We were frustrated. Then, heading into the new year, I told Matt that I wanted to take on a different focus.
I wanted to focus on our current house again and start doing some projects that we said we could do but didn’t do because we thought we were moving. I think it is so important to love the space you are in RIGHT NOW and we are fully embracing that this year. Today, I am talking about the easy things we did to give our split level entry a makeover that has made the biggest difference!
A few years ago, we did have someone come in and put new flooring in the entry. That alone can make the biggest difference in your entry. I loved the change but stopped there and didn’t do anything else until now.
Steps To This Split Level Entry Makeover
This makeover began by adding battery-operated sconces on each side of the door. When I tell you I fell in love, that is an understatement. I couldn’t believe how well they fit the space and how much light they give the entry since we don’t have any windows on or around the door. (We have been talking about getting a new front door.) You can find the sconces I choose HERE.
After the sconces were up, I restored all the wood in the entry with Restor-a-Finish. That made all of the wood (trim, sides of stairs, posts, etc.) look so much better and made me excited to keep going with the split level entry makeover.
Next Steps To This Makeover:
The next thing I wanted to do was add a trim board to the large wall in the entry. We had this trim piece in our garage. We put it up and then I painted it the same color as the walls. This added a little bit of visual interest without being overly dramatic. It looks as if it was always there.
Once that trim piece was up, we added three brass hooks centered in the entry itself. This would enable me to “decorate” the split level entry without taking up space on the floor.
I added a thrifted basket to the hooks and a thrifted moth piece I picked up for $0.99. You can see how I made over the thrifted basket HERE.
Next, I added a few other thrifted finds that wouldn’t take up too much space. They were the perfect fit. Then, came the new rug!
I wanted a rug that would add some color, some pizzazz if you will to the entry and this one was perfect. Boutique Rugs has so many great options. On the other side of the entry, I scored a beautiful antique mirror that fits the wall perfectly at my local Habitat Restore shop for $30. I just brought it home, cleaned it, and hung it up. It is amazing what a mirror can do to make a small space seem bigger. Mirrors are your friend when working with small spaces.
