Makeovers and working on our home is something Matt and I enjoy doing, but when we are at a standstill, I like to keep my creative juices flowing with smaller projects. I have rescued cast-off furniture to breathe new life into since I can remember. If I find a great piece at a good price, even if I don’t have a need for it, I get it. I found a beautiful table and chairs that I couldn’t pass up at the end of summer. The price was right and I knew I could make it the white farmhouse dining table it was destined to be.
The before pictures of this table aren’t so pretty. I am sure it was amazing back in its day. It is ginormous! It came with four leaves and six chairs!!! I know there were more chairs with the original set because only one of them had arms. I am sure there were two chairs with arms for each end of the table at one time.
When I found the table and chairs, I looked right past the ugly and focused on the details.
There were so many great details.
The seat cushions were not exciting either, but covering them was going to be the easiest job of the entire makeover.

To make this outdated table the beautiful white farmhouse dining table is was meant to be, we couldn’t have done it without the HomeRight Finish Sprayer and “Picket Fence” from Fusion Mineral Paint.
If you don’t have a paint sprayer and do a lot of painting projects, you must invest in one of these sprayers. It makes big projects like this not so big. It would have taken us days and hours to paint this set with a brush.
“Picket Fence” from Fusion Mineral Paint is such a great white color. It is bright and crisp and makes whatever you use it on new again.
I lightly sanded the edges of the table and chairs.
I could not resist using my stack of burlap sacks for the chair seats. Every chair with this set got a different sack and they really brought it to life.
I couldn’t resist setting the table up in the yard. I always think it would be fun to have a space where you could use a set like this outdoors.
A few things grown in our yard made a stunning centerpiece for this farmhouse dining table.
All the details I saw when I first set eyes on this table look even more amazing now.
This white farmhouse dining table is going to the home of a new family in the area. They have moved from Texas to Iowa and are super excited to have this table in their new home.
If you don’t have a farmhouse dining table to make over, I found some great options online:
I would love to know what would you have done with this table and chairs?

It turned out beautiful!! That’s a good idea about purchasing a paint sprayer!! That would make fast work of a large project, one I’ve been putting off!!! Nice Lindsay!!
Thank you!
It is absolutely beautiful! Love everything about it.
Thank you!
Beautiful. I love it set up on the lawn, but it will be beautiful inside the house with appropriate blended furniture.
Do you paint the underside of your projects? I refinished a table recently- kept the top the original finish and painted the pedestal and legs a gold color. I regret that I did not paint the underside (where the pedestal joins to the top). I did refinish the underside of the drop sides.
It depends on the project. Sometimes I do and other times I don’t.
Great table!
What type of prep did you have to do before painting this table? Did you use a poly finish? It looks great, I love it.
I sanded it a little bit. I then used a matte clear coat over the paint.
Could you share the clear coat used? I painted our fireplace in picket fence but it is getting scuffed and I would like to add something to protect it. Thanks’
I like the top coat from Dixie Belle Paint and Fusion has one too. I think matte top coats are so good!
what would I do with the farm house table? after your make over I would get it in my house as fast as I could and hug it and hug it ha ha xx merry Christmas
🙂 Merry Christmas to you too!
Stunning job. Paint changes everything. 🙂 I love the seat covers too. Looks amazing!
Thank yoU!
Saw this on Facebook and had to respond. I had the same table but with only four chairs – did not have the end chairs. I also had the buffet that went with it. Mine only had one leaf with it. I used mind in my craft room and used the buffet in my kitchen as extra storage and counter space. Mine went through several transformations before I settled on white. Love this set. You did a great job on your.
Thank you so much!
Good Job!
Thank you!
